It seems like only yesterday that Denali skated into the Werk Room and fans’ hearts on the premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13. However, the ice queen was forced to “sashay away” on the most recent episode. Of course, every contestant wants to make it to the finale and be crowned America’s next drag superstar. But Denali isn’t leaving the experience empty-handed. Not only did she mend her friendship with Kandy Muse after an on-stage altercation, she also formed a real life (and strictly platonic) connection with Rosé.

The Alaska native and Chicago, Illinois queen was a force to be reckoned with from day one when she performed a lip sync battle in skates. Throughout the competition, Denali turned out some fierce looks. She was also a Snatch Game frontrunner thanks to her spot-on Jonathan Van Ness impersonation. But after being just “safe” every week, her frustration grew. Denali thought her situation would improve during last week’s maxi challenge, which tasked her and Olivia Lux with dressing each other in their own drag image. Unfortunately, the pair had to lip sync against each other and RuPaul chose Olivia to stay.

On the heels of her departure, Denali spoke to EW to clarify a few things. On Denali’s final episode, a guest psychic picked up vibes that she and Rosé were crushing on each other. Denali said, “There’s a little bit of truth to the crush! Rosé was instrumental in me having an impactful feeling of humanity at ‘Drag Race.’ It can sometimes feel isolating, and she helped it feel a little more normal and real. The crush comes from a sense of a friendship crush.” Denali stressed that she and Rosé both have boyfriends, though they’ve since reunited for hilarious “Rosenali” wine sessions on Instagram Live. She’ll also never say “no” to fashion advice from Rosé. “I was going to wear these really sad dance biscuits because I was so traumatized from the first episode because I was in those skates!…I also had this pair of higher heels…they were a little more uncomfortable to dance in, but Rosé convinced me to wear them because they were prettier,” Denali said. “I think I did fine because I won that challenge.” Check out one of Rosé and Denali’s collabs below:

Also during the interview, Denali set the record straight on why she answered “Kandy Muse” when RuPaul asked each contestant who should go home. Denali refused to throw herself or her partner Olivia under the bus. “There were two people on that stage that had yet to win a challenge, and that was Tina Burner and Kandy Muse. So, there was a little bit of motivation under that to be like, well, you guys did well up to here, but you haven’t won a challenge, so I’ll say Kandy,” Denali said. “I knew she was probably going to bark back, but it was a difficult choice that I had to make. I didn’t really believe in it, I just said it.” Kandy did clap back at Denali on stage, but the two were able to reconcile on Untucked.

It’s safe to say that the world can expect big things from Denali. She’s a natural performer both on and off the ice, and humble to boot. Following her elimination, social media was flooded with posts demanding a Denali appearance on the next season of All Stars. If this becomes a reality, the other queens will surely have their work cut out for them. There will be no more playing it “safe.”
