RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race has been a huge success for everyone involved. Here are the best celebrity transformations from the show.

There’s a new RuPaul’s Drag Race spin-off in town, and this time, it is the celebrity guests who have to get in drag and compete for the crown. All in all, RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race has been a huge success for everyone involved – from the fan-favorite drag performers who came back as mentors to the celebrities who competed on one of the hottest reality competition franchises on TV.
Given that Secret Celebrity Drag Race was basically an extended version of the makeover challenge on standard Drag Race, it is time to look back at these transformations and rank which ones were more successful than others.
10 Jordan Connor
Jordan Connor (Riverdale) had the right attitude for Secret Celebrity Drag Race – he was open to the physical transformation, curious about learning more, and respectful to the LGBTQIA+ space he was entering as a straight man.
The appeal of Jordan Connor’s makeover largely stems from the actor’s willingness to do his best. However, in comparison to some of the other transformations that fans saw over the course of four episodes, Jordan’s was not necessarily top-notch. Still, it should be noted that Jordan Connor won that episode fair and square.
9 Jermaine Fowler
It may not have seemed like comedian Jermaine Fowler was fully embracing the drag of it all, given that he decided to play safe on the Snatch Game and impersonate a person he was incredibly familiar with and comfortable doing.
With that said, there was something really powerful about watching Jermaine Fowler recognize the image of his mother on his face once he looked at his made-up self in the mirror. It’s been long said on shows like Queer Eye that physical and material changes are actually about deeper things inside us all, and that is what makes this brief moment from Jermaine on Secret Celebrity Drag Race so special.
8 Madison Beer
There’s no denying that transformations are easier when the person being made over is already as charismatic, talented, and beautiful as singer Madison Beer. However, there’s still something to be said about the stunning and fierce drag persona that we got from Madison’s makeover on Secret Celebrity Drag Race.
What’s more, we got to see Drag Race judge Michelle Visage saying that Madison Beer looked like Linda Evangelista in drag – a reference to the season 9 praise that the judges had for contestant Valentina, which prompted Aja’s now-iconic “You’re beautiful, you’re perfect, you look like Linda Evangelista” rant.
7 Alex Newell
The multitalented singer and actor Alex Newell (Glee) is used to getting in drag for his music videos, live performances, and acting gigs. Nonetheless, this felt different for Alex, given that Secret Celebrity Drag Race was about him, not a character.
The Alex Newell makeover is hands-down one of the fiercest transformations we got to see on this first four-episode run of Secret Celebrity Drag Race. Like Madison Beer, it wasn’t necessarily a stretch for Alex to become this fierce diva. However, we must still give him and his mentors credit for such a fierce makeover.
6 Tami Roman
It was never going to be hard to transform the already beautiful Tami Roman into a drag persona. With that said, it was impressive to see how different she looked at the end of the process, displaying a physical fierceness that kept stealing the spotlight during the entire episode.
By the time that the lip-sync started on Secret Celebrity Drag Race, Tami Roman looked like a legitimate drag performer that could have been competing on a standard season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. All in all, this is certainly an impressive makeover that will be remembered.
5 Loni Love
Loni Love may have stuck to her strengths and applied the same sense of humor she already had to her drag persona. Visually, however, Loni looked nearly unrecognizable from her out-of-drag self, which makes this such an impressive Drag Race makeover.
We all know Loni Love from the daytime talk show The Real, but on Drag Race, a very different person was up on that stage. Loni’s Queen Supreme Trinity The Tuck, as well as the uncredited contestants who did the makeovers (Shannel, Mayhem Miller, and Laila McQueen), certainly deserve props for the visual transformation they pulled off.
4 Dustin Milligan
Drag Race superfan Dustin Milligan (Schitt’s Creek) may have hit the ground running on Secret Celebrity Drag Race, but no one could’ve foreseen the striking physical makeover that the actor underwent on the show.
Not only did Dustin Milligan look completely unrecognizable, but his drag persona also looked fierce and like a legitimate drag performer. In the end, Dustin came to the realization that this transformation was never about ‘female illusion,’ but more about finding a different type of strength inside himself.
3 Hayley Kiyoko
Hayley Kiyoko is a lesbian singer who never felt entirely comfortable wearing things that were perceived ‘girly.’ As such, Hayley seemed a bit hesitant at the beginning of her episode on Secret Celebrity Drag Race, telling Queen Supreme Vanessa Vanjie Mateo that she considered herself “butch.”
Miss Vanjie, who also brings more masculine energy to drag, was the perfect pairing for Hayley Kiyoko to feel comfortable in the drag persona that she found for herself. In hindsight, her makeover was not only physically impressive, but it also symbolized a great queer story that was being told on TV.
2 Matt Iseman
It is easy for LGBTQIA+ people to jump to the conclusion that men like Matt Iseman (American Ninja Warrior, The New Celebrity Apprentice) would never do drag. Thankfully, Matt had the opportunity to compete on RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race and demonstrate a great example of how straight men can be allies to the queer community.
What’s more, the visual transformation of a jock in his 40s becoming a fierce drag queen was undeniably impressive and exciting to watch. By the end of the episode, it was easy to forget about Matt Iseman altogether, as fans were completely sold on his Bette Bordeaux drag persona.
1 Vanessa Williams
On paper, it seems like a challenge to transform a face as recognizable as Vanessa Williams’ into a drag persona that feels different but equally powerful. Somehow, Queen Supreme Asia O’Hara and the Secret Celebrity Drag Race team (Shannel, Mayhem Miller, and Laila McQueen) pulled it off, turning Vanessa Williams into a bonafide drag queen.
Vanessa Williams certainly deserved to win her episode of Secret Celebrity Drag Race, as this will go down as one of the most successful and exciting makeovers in the history of the Drag Race franchise.
