Samsung Galaxy S20s Camera Has Some Problems

The Galaxy S20 is the latest flagship device from Samsung although there are already concerns that the camera experience might not be as reliable as many expect. If these issues go unchecked, they could become deal-breakers for many consumers looking to buy a new smartphone in 2020.

Samsung’s Galaxy S line is arguably its most popular range of phones, and traditionally one of its major selling points is the camera experience. This year, the spotlight on the Galaxy S20 series has been dimmed a little due to the company also announcing the new Galaxy Z Flip foldable smartphone. However, now that the reviews are starting to come through, there appears to be some issues with the cameras.

The Galaxy S20 series is not yet officially on sale, although as is often the case, reviews of the products are now starting to go live. Some of them, including one from PCMag, explain that the advanced camera features are not quite living up to expectations. For example, issues and/or bugs have been observed with focusing, night mode, and just the general quality of images captured at times. In response to the claims, Samsung has confirmed to The Verge (who has also noticed similar issues) that it is working on an update that once applied will improve the camera experience.

Cameras A Major Selling Point For Samsung

Samsung is a major player in the smartphone world and the Galaxy S line is its proper flagship device for the first half of the year – with the Galaxy Note range typically stealing the limelight in the second half. As a result, and with cameras being as important to the smartphone experience as they now are, Samsung will want to make sure any issues affecting this part of the phone are fixed as soon as possible. Having multiple reviews criticizing the cameras is likely to have a knock-on effect for consumers when making a decision as to what smartphone they will purchase this year, and that’s unlikely to be something Samsung will want to let continue for long. Especially considering that outlets like PCMag have indicated that if the bugs were fixed, the Galaxy S20 could easily be an Editors’ Choice – the type of status Samsung will have been banking on before all the camera issues came to light.

Regardless of the current problems thought to be affecting the Galaxy S20 series, this is likely to still remain one of the best smartphones on the market right now. What’s more, many of the issues raised are likely ones that can be easily remedied (or at least, improved), through software upgrades. Again, with Samsung already confirming it is working on the phone’s first major update, and specifically focusing on camera improvements, it might be a little early to form any firm conclusions on Samsung’s latest premium smartphone.
