Director Edgar Wright has celebrated the 10th anniversary of the release of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World by posting a slew of behind-the-scenes photos. The movie adaptation of the comic book was released on August 13, 2010, but struggled to find an audience at the box office despite receiving mostly positive reviews. It has enjoyed a second life, though, as a cult hit on streaming services and physical home releases, and is popular thanks to its mix of humor, kinetic action and pop culture references drawn from movies, TV, video games and comic books.

Wright, who made his name as the director of the Cornetto Trilogy, including Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, shot the movie on location in Toronto, the hometown of the comic’s creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World featured a stellar cast of young actors including one former Superman, and the future Captain America and Captain Marvel. The cast, who recently reunited for a 10th anniversary table read, included Michael Cera (Pilgrim), Chris Evans (Lucas Lee), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ramona Flowers), Kieran Culkin (Wallace Wells), Anna Kendrick (Stacy Pilgrim), Brie Larson (Envy Adams), Jason Schwartzmann (Gideon Graves), Brandon Routh (Todd Ingram) and a host of others.

Now, Wright has taken to Instagram to post a whole slew of behind-the-scenes photos from the Canadian shoot, including many which have never been seen before. The shots show the entire production process, from early rehearsals through shooting, and include some funny moments. The real Lee’s Palace in Toronto recreated in the studio! (I remember @metric & @brokensocialscene being wowed by the authenticity of the set.) With The Clash At Demonhead! Brie singing Black Sheep! Knives with blue hair! Backstage with Todd Ingram! Vegan Powers! Bass battle! What a blast it was making this. #scottpilgrimis10

The photos present a fascinating insight into the production process on the cult hit, including showing that the cast seemed to have a genuine bond on set. Wright and the actors are seen joking around in many of the shoots, and Wright talks about the movie being one of the best shooting experiences of his life. One post that stands out is an early stunt test, featuring Wright standing in for Culkin as Wallace and the stunt man jumping out the window in the background in a scene that leads to much hilarity.

Wright has since gone on to direct Baby Driver and the upcoming Last Night in Soho, but it’s clear from his multiple posts that Scott Pilgrim vs. The World holds a special place in his heart. Despite bombing at the box office, the cast and crew all seem to look back on this movie as one of their favorites, a sentiment shared by fans of the quirky movie. The fact that audiences are able to see just how enjoyable the process was should increase their enjoyment of the movie the next time they watch it.
