Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase Extended featured another new look at Captain Jack Sparrow in the forthcoming Sea of Thieves and Pirates of the Caribbean crossover event. To the delight of many a fan, Rare and Xbox announced their partnership with Disney during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase on June 13.

The surprise reveal unleashed a sneak peek at what inarguably counts as Sea of Thieves’ biggest update yet, which will go live for free on Thursday, June 22. Aptly dubbed A Pirate’s Life, the Pirates of the Caribbean crossover content will see more than just Captain Jack Sparrow join the seafaring fun. Several other iconic PotC characters were also spotted or referenced throughout the reveal trailer, including the enigmatic Calypso, who narrates the footage, the villainous Davy Jones, and Mr. Gibbs.

Microsoft hosted another digital event, the Xbox Games Showcase Extended, which let loose a second gameplay trailer for Sea of Thieves’ eagerly-anticipated A Pirate’s Life update. Naturally, Jack Sparrow featured prominently throughout, as did a few other recognizable Pirates of the Caribbean characters, but the new footage also provided additional insight about what players can expect from the free update. Previously unseen cosmetics are on the horizon; the editing of the trailer implies that one such cosmetic may include Jack’s Black Pearl pirate ship. Sea of Thieves fans will also get to explore brand-new locales and come face-to-face with fearsome new enemies – the Ocean Crawlers, Phantoms, and Sirens – some of whom seem inspired by Davy Jones’ crew in the film franchise.

Again, this may prove the most exciting Sea of Thieves content drop to date. Jack Sparrow, of course, represents one of the key selling points, but the mysterious narrative sounds intriguing, as well. And who isn’t curious about the kraken that appears at the tail end of the above trailer? Sea of Thieves fans can find out what it’s all about in just a few short days.

Xbox and Rare released the shared-world exploration title in 2018 to generally unfavorable reception from critics and fans alike. As many can attest, however, Sea of Thieves has improved considerably in the last three years, becoming one of Xbox’s must-play titles.
