Mary Fitzgerald admits her Selling Sunset co-star Amanza Smith’s custody win is “bittersweet.” The 43-year-old Netflix star was recently granted sole legal and physical custody of her daughter Noah and son Braker. Amanza, who has many famous exes, had no choice but to take legal action earlier this year as her ex, Ralph Brown, went missing, and therefore wasn’t around to sign paperwork that would allow Amanza to make and follow through with very simple decisions for their children. For example, Amanza wanted to get a therapist for her children, but wasn’t able to do so because she legally needed their father’s approval. Legal documents state that Ralph is not allowed any visitation rights until he is able to provide proper information, such as an updated contact address. He has not been involved in the on-going case since he went missing in September 2019.

Netflix viewers met Amanza for the first time when she joined Selling Sunset’s sophomore season. She was brought onto the show through her friendship with Mary Fitzgerald and broker Jason Oppenheim, whom she has known for several years. When she arrived at the Oppenheim Group, Amanza had recently gotten her real estate license after working as an interior designer for many years.

Now that Amanza got her ruling in court, Mary told E! News that she’s excited for her friend to finally move on. “She’s happy that it happened because she can now have control over the situation and help her kids in the best way,” Mary said, adding that it was very difficult for Amanza to be a good parent for quite some time due to the legal restrictions. While things turned out in Amanza’s favor, Mary felt like the entire situation was “bittersweet.” Mary admitted that she wishes Ralph could have been more present, and things would have worked itself out differently, but at the end of the day, “it is what is it. She’s happy to finally be able to move on.”

Though Netflix bingers rarely get to see Amanza with her mother hat on, Mary praised her co-stars parenting skills. “She’s incredible. She’s the best mom,” Mary said. “If I ever have another kid, I hope I can be like her. She really is the most thoughtful, loving person. I watch her and she’s an inspiration.” Mary continued to bring the conversation to the upcoming season of Selling Sunset, admitting that it won’t really showcase Chrishell Stause’s romance with Jason, who Mary previously dated. That said, Mary knows that fans will look out for their chemistry in earlier episodes to see their relationship progress. “They just really complement each other and they respect each other. They are just the cutest couple ever,” Mary said.

Seems like there’s a lot of new beginnings in the lives of The Oppenheim Group employees. Mary’s admission that Amanza was unable to make simple decisions for her children makes viewers think that her family’s newfound freedom may lead to seeing her family more often on Selling Sunset. Viewers know Amanza as the realtor, but it would be quite nice to see her softer, family side.
