Actress Zoey Deutch would like to star in the DCEU Batgirl movie. Created by writer Bill Finger and artist Sheldon Moldoff, Batgirl first appeared in the comic Batman #139. Originally known as Betty Kane, the character evolved into Barbara Gordon. As implied by the name, Batgirl is the male counterpart of Batman.

Over the years, various female characters have assumed the identity of Batgirl, including Helena Bertinelli aka Huntress, Cassandra Cain, and Stephanie Brown. In the ‘60s, Batgirl was incorporated into the ABC series Batman, with Yvonne Craig portraying the character. For the 1997 film Batman & Robin, Alicia Silverstone played a version named Barbara Wilson. In recent years, a baby version of Batgirl appeared in the Fox series Gotham, and Rosario Dawson voiced Barbara Gordon aka. Batgirl in The Lego Batman Movie.

On Twitter, Deutch responded to a tweet that reads: “Zoey Deutch should play Batgirl in a movie. I only want her. Thanks, DC Comics.” The actress merely stated, “yes please,” and included a bat emoji. Deutch’s message has currently received over 5,000 likes and nearly 1,000 retweets. The fan also posted four images that show the physical similarities between Deutch and DC Comics’ Batgirl. In April, Christina Hodson was reportedly hired to write a Batgirl movie, this coming after she previously wrote Bumblebee and the upcoming Harley Quinn movie Birds of Prey. Joss Whedon was originally set to direct DCEU’s Batgirl but will reportedly be replaced by a female filmmaker. Check out Deutch’s Tweet below.

Batgirl makes perfect sense for Deutch given her career trajectory. Earlier in the decade, she co-starred with Sarah Michelle Gellar in the CW series Ringer before transitioning into feature films. Deutch headlined the 2014 comedy horror adaptation Vampire Academy and appeared in numerous mainstream and indie features before delivering a breakout performance in the 2018 romantic comedy Set It Up. Her new film Buffaloed premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April, and she has a main role in the upcoming sequel Zombieland: Double Tap. Deutch is the daughter of actress Lea Thompson (Back to the Future) and filmmaker Howard Deutch (Pretty in Pink). Her sister, Madelyn Deutch, is also an actress (Outcast, The Year of Spectacular Men).

As a performer, Deutch excels at physical comedy. She’s also proven herself capable of handling dramatic roles as well. For Batgirl, Deutch’s skill set fully aligns with the DC character, and she seems more than ready for the next phase of her career. A lead role in Batgirl would undoubtedly give Deutch a huge platform to display her versatility as an actress.
