Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings had some well-rounded characters and here is a look at the Zodiac traits of the heroes and villains.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings brought Marvel back to movie theaters with its first exclusive theatrical release in over a year. While it didn’t make what Black Widow did in its opening weekend, it received critical praise, sitting at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and 98% from the audience score. Much of this is a credit to the characters and story of the newest Marvel superhero.
The characters in Shang-Chi are all well-rounded, all with good and bad traits, and that helped elevate this over many superhero movies with stereotypical heroes and villains. All the characters found a place on the list of traits for the signs of the Zodiac, both with positive and negative points about them in the movie.
12 Aries – Shang-Chi
Shang-Chi is the main hero of the new Marvel movie, a man trained in martial arts whose father is an immortal who has lived for over a thousand years. While Shang-Chi becomes a hero by the end, he spent most of his life hiding who he really was and avoiding his eventual fate.
He shares the stubborn and undisciplined traits with Aries, someone who didn’t want to face his father again and just drifted along, refusing any responsibilities. However, he becomes a hero with one of the best Shang-Chi character arcs and shares some positive traits as well, including his courageous acts of heroism when his friends needed him and his passionate warrior-like heart.
11 Taurus – Xu Xialing
Xialing is Shang-Chi’s sister and she has a few grudges to bear. To escape from their dad, Shang-Chi left his young sister alone to run away. As a result, Xialing also ran away years later and built her own empire, showing she is one of the best fighters in Shang-Chi.
She has a stubborn nature of never taking no for an answer. She is also possessive and shows this at the end when she takes the family business for herself rather than shutting it down. Add in her independence and persistence, and she is truly a Taurus.
10 Gemini – John
John is Soo’s significant other. He got even less time in the movie than Soo. However, he seems a little less harsh and judgmental than Soo. He also seems a lot more laid back, although still one step above Katy and Shang-Chi professionally.
Like a Gemini, John is soft-spoken and seems humorous. He is also an intellectual and seems a bit superficial.
9 Cancer – Ying Li
Ying Li is Shang-Chi’s mother and she only appears in the flashback scenes in the movie. She died and that is what sent Shang-Chi’s dad on a dark road he had turned away from. She is also what created the goodness that lived on in her son.
Yang Li was faithful and loving, while also acting protective to save her family. Like most Cancers, she was also a creative force, which aided her in her fighting technique, something that helped her best even the strength of Wenwu.
8 Leo – Xu Wenwu
In Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Wenwu plays the hero’s dad and also the main bad guy through most of the movie. However, he is also one of the most sympathetic villains in any MCU movie, although his sacrifice was a clear superhero trope in Shang-Chi.
Wenwu is a classic Leo, a natural-born leader. He uss his leadership skills to build the Ten Rings into a powerhouse organization that helped change history. He is dominant, arrogant, impatient, and possessive to the end.
7 Virgo – Ying Nan
Ying Nan is Ying Li’s sister and Shang-Chi’s aunt and remains in Ta Lo with their people. She ends up fighting by Shang-Chi and Xialing’s side when Wenwu showed up to unknowingly free a great evil.
Like Virgos, Ying Nan is a strong mentor for Shang-Chi as he prepared to battle his father. She is watchful and intelligent, while also reliable and trustworthy. She also knows that it is important to do things perfectly to master her skills.
6 Libra – Katy
Katy goes through more changes than anyone in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. At the start, she is best friends with Shang-Chi, happy to work parking cars, and not really caring about moving ahead in life. However, she is very important as a side character, a different trait for an MCU movie.
Her detached attitude is a Libra trait, as is her slight laziness at the start. However, she becomes a warrior alongside Shang-Chi and proves herself to be someone who can get the job done and play fair when the chips are down.
5 Scorpio – Razor Fist
Razor Fist is the first major villain that Shang-Chi fights in the movie. The fight on the bus sees Shang-Chi only survive thanks to quick thinking at the end. The fight then continues on in Ta Lo before he ends up choosing to change sides and battle the Dweller-in-Darkness forces.
Razor Fist is Wenwu’s righthand man and he possesses Scorpio attributes in his focus, bravery, and ambition. He is also extremely faithful to the Ten Rings and has the intuition to know when the time was right to change sides.
4 Sagittarius – Soo
Soo gets very little screentime in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. She is Katy and Shang-Chi’s friend that they have dinner with. She is demanding and seems more like Katy’s mother than a friend.
While she didn’t have much screentime to develop as a character, her attitude comes across as Sagittarius. She is tactless in her comments toward her friends, and also seems very straightforward, speaking her truth no matter who it hurt.
3 Capricorn – Wong
Wong is one of Doctor Strange’s main supporting characters, but outside of that, his only appearance was minor roles in the Avengers movies. After Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Wong might be one of the most popular supporting characters in the MCU.
He is a pure Capricorn, a practical, wise, and disciplined warrior, trained by the Ancient One. He is even more disciplined than Doctor Strange, a patient and cautious martial arts master who is also stubborn to a fault.
2 Aquarius – Death Dealer
While Razor Fist is Wenwu’s right-hand man, it is Death Dealer that is his deadliest assassin. Death Dealer is who helped turn Shang-Chi into a powerful warrior. He is who oversaw the training of all Wenwu’s warriors.
Death Dealer is intelligent and creative, while also remaining loyal to his master, the true sign of an Aquarius. As a warrior, he is also unpredictable and an extremist, someone who will do anything to achieve his goals.
1 Pisces – Trevor Slattery
Trevor Slattery was the fake Mandarin in Iron Man 3 and ended up in prison for his part in AIM’s crimes. However, the real Mandarin — Wenwu — broke him out of prison with the intention of killing him, but the actor convinced him to spare him by entertaining everyone with his acting.
Slattery is extremely imaginative almost to a fault, much like a Pisces. He is also an escapist, who will hide rather than fight, and is extremely oversensitive as an artist.
