Sharon Carters MCU Return Makes Her & Steves Civil War Kiss Worse

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier makes Sharon Carter and Steve Rogers’ kiss in Captain America: Civil War worse. Agent 13 returns to the MCU after five years, and this time, she’s currently hiding in Madripoor as she continues to be haunted after siding with Team Cap on the heels of the Sokovia Accords debacle. While she appears to have settled into her new life selling valuable art underground while longing to be able to return to the United States, it’s still a pity that she has been forced to cease all contact with his family and go into hiding.

Marvel Studios’ ongoing Disney+ show has reached its narrative midpoint with episode 3 titled “Power Broker;” after their encounter with John Walker and Lemar Hoskins, Sam and Bucky find themselves working side-by-side with Zemo as they continue their hunt for the super-soldier serum source. This was all part of their efforts to get to the bottom of the Flag-Smashers mystery. The trio arrived in Madripoor for a lead, but after a covert operation that went wrong, Sharon had to come out of the shadows to help them. From there, she revealed what she’s been up to since the events of Civil War.

As she briefly mentioned, after siding with Team Cap in the Sokovia Accords debate, she was branded an enemy of the state, which forced her into hiding. But while Sam and the other heroes were pardoned eventually on the heels of Avengers: Endgame, she was not – hence why she’s still on the run. Steve may not have coerced her into help them during their initial run from the government, but her current situation makes their brief kiss so much worse in hindsight. It’s clear that the Super Soldier was still in love with Peggy, and would have returned to her if he could. So seeing him locking lips with her great-grandniece was jarring to see. For Sharon, however, chances are that she might actually have genuine feelings for him, and while she’s risked her life before to support Steve, there’s a chance that she was more inclined to help him because of this.

Now, Steve is no longer in the main MCU timeline having gone to the past to reunite with Peggy and live a quiet life with her. Sam and other surviving Team Cap members do have their own personal problems, but they’re able to work towards reclaiming their old lives. Sharon Carter, sans pardon, is stuck in Madripoor, and while she has the means to take care of herself it would still be so much better if she could be pardoned and have the choice to return home. After all, what she did in Civil War was no worse than what the others who opposed the Sokovia Accords did.

Sam and Bucky’s stint in Madripoor has ended, leaving Sharon’s future uncertain. It’s unknown if The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will revisit the island again or if Agent 13 will be pardoned and be able to come back to the U.S. This means that while the main events of Captain America: Civil War have long since past, their effects on certain people like Sharon Carter continue.
