Sister Wives Why Christine Browns New Single Status Is Complicated

Christine Brown has put up with a difficult marriage with Kody Brown on Sister Wives, but reports that the reality star is single are still perplexing fans. After legal documents identified Christine as a single woman, many of the sister wife’s followers were enthusiastic about the TV personality’s decision to leave her chaotic plural marriage. While some fans are celebrating, others aren’t so sure that Christine actually broke up with her polygamist husband, and here’s why.

Christine and Kody have had their fair share of ups and downs throughout their decade together on Sister Wives. Christine is Kody’s third wife of four, and they’ve been in a plural marriage since 1994. On the show, the faults in Christine’s marriage stood out as Kody struggled to meet all the needs of his four wives. In the Sister Wives season 16 trailer, Christine explained how unhappy she was in her relationship with Kody in Arizona. Kody has attempted to reunite his four wives on his Coyote Pass plot of land, but Christine has rejected those ambitions. Christine’s made it plain that she wants to move back to Utah and doesn’t see the point in continuing her dysfunctional relationship with Kody.

New legal documents suggest that Christine has finally left the Brown family, but fans might want to hold off on their excitement. According to documents obtained by The Sun, Christine listed herself as a “single woman” in the deed to her home in Arizona. Fans who have been rooting for Christine to leave Kody found this to be the confirmation they’ve been waiting for. Besides the trailer signaling Christine’s move to another state, documents identifying the reality star as single convinced viewers that she ripped off the band-aid and was done with her plural marriage. Unfortunately for fans, this news is too good to be true. Although Christine and Kody have been “spiritually” married for three decades, Christine has always been single in the eyes of the law.

When Christine and Kody tied the knot, the polygamist husband was still legally married to his first wife, Meri. Thus, Christine and Kody’s wedding ceremony only initiated the couple’s spiritual union. After all, it is against the law for Kody to be legally married to more than one woman. Eventually, Kody divorced Meri so he could legally be married to his latest and favorite wife, Robyn Brown. Even though Kody and Meri aren’t on the best terms, the original Brown pair is still together (at least, spiritually). This means that although it’s possible the events that unfold on Sister Wives season 16 lead to the end of Christine’s spiritual relationship with Kody, the legal documents that declared her to be single don’t really reveal Christine’s current marital status.

Christine’s relationship with Kody has been hard to watch, and it’s been surely even more difficult for the reality stars to endure. While fans might hope that the legal documents accurately proved she was single, Christine has never been a married woman in the eyes of the law in the first place. Fans can hope that Christine shares more about her relationship status in Sister Wives season 16.
