Bethesda has announced it will be re-releasing Skyrim once again for the game’s 10th anniversary this November. The re-release will come to last-gen and current-gen consoles, as well as PC, with new content, including fishing. It should come as no surprise that Bethesda is continuing to squeeze life out of Skyrim, but at least this rerelease features new content.

Players will soon be able to re-experience the iconic opening of Skyrim once again on the latest consoles, following an infamous Bethesda trend of rereleasing the open-world RPG numerous times on different consoles. Since Skyrim is a deeply renowned RPG, it’s not really a surprise that Bethesda is doubling down on the game for its 10th anniversary. At the time of its release in 2011, the game was quite revolutionary and left many wondering how Bethesda would be able to top itself.

Now, fans will be able to relive the adventures of the Dragonborn when The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Anniversary Edition releases on November 11, 2021. Since The Elder Scrolls VI is a ways off, this should hopefully tide some fans over. Bethesda announced the game at QuakeCon and confirmed it will include a “free next-gen upgrade” to those who already own the game. A fishing mechanic and some new quests will be added in with this new version alongside over 500 creation club elements. Bethesda hasn’t shared any other further details, including any potential tech upgrades, but zealous fans of the RPG will likely be keeping an eye out for it.

With a November release date, Skyrim: Anniversary Edition is positioned as a holiday title. Ironically, Bethesda will be going up against another remaster of a franchise’s fifth mainline game in the form of Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar’s open-world crime game will release the day after the Skyrim re-release. Both GTA V and Skyrim are often cited as classic titles that many hold quite dearly, so it’ll be interesting to see how well these two fare against each other.

Similarly, fans of both games are still waiting for news about follow-ups to both title. Both Grand Theft Auto VI and The Elder Scrolls VI seem to be many years away, so these new re-releases for both titles will have to suffice for now. At the very least, both games appear to be getting noteworthy upgrades, so fans have something to chew on while they wait for the next entries in these beloved franchises.
