A new mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim gives the Dragonborn an opportunity to practice playing music while on their adventure. Despite approaching its 10-year anniversary near the end of 2021, the game has managed to maintain a strong player base that shows no signs of diminishing even though The Elder Scrolls VI has officially been announced by developer Bethesda.

The major contributing factor to Skyrim’s longevity is its extremely dedicated modding community, which is made up of passionate fans. Mods continue to keep the game fresh by adding a wide variety of new content from the absurd to the incredibly immersive. There are even some Skyrim mods that are essentially entirely separate games, such as Enderal. To this day, the modding community keeps churning out new and improved content, and one of its latest creations focuses on improving immersion in a slightly comedic way.

The Skyrim’s Got Talent mod is currently available for download, and its focus is to make the Dragonborn practice their musical instruments in order to get better by including a simple progression system. The Dragonborn will start off playing any instrument terribly, and if this is done in public, NPCs will comment on the poor quality, but practice changes all of that. Skyrim’s Got Talent also adds many new playable songs for gamers who want to take the bard route, as well as a few other minor additions. A showcase of the mod can be found on JS’s YouTube channel.

The elements that drive Skyrim’s Got Talent are simple, but they add a whole new dynamic that did not exist in the base game. This mod is by no means the first attempt to improve the bard gameplay in Skyrim, but it does manage to set itself apart by combing both the immersive and absurd into one package. Though it is clearly meant to be an immersive mod, it seems likely that some players will use Skyrim’s Got Talent to torture poor NPCs with bad music.

At this point in Skyrim’s existence, the base game merely serves as a skeleton for dedicated modders. With all the achievements the modding community has pulled off over the last decade, one can only hope that Bethesda has been paying attention and will implement some of those upgrades into The Elder Scrolls VI. While Skyrim was a great game during its release, the many mods that have come out since have proven that there was a lot of untapped potential in the title as well. Hopefully Bethesda will explore more of it in future series installments.
