Small & Stylish How Garmins Smartwatch For Women Breaks The Mold

Garmin’s recently announced smartwatch, the Lily, is a product celebrated by the company as a watch “designed by women, for women.” It’s the first smartwatch in Garmin’s lineup marketed specifically towards women and it’s outfitted with several features and design elements specifically with that in mind. What with the reputation Garmin’s previous smartwatches have built, the Lily has some lofty expectations to live up to.

Garmin, the origins of which date back to 1989, specializes in GPS technology with products ranging from handheld GPS devices to marine GPS and even fishfinders. The company has made a popular collection of smartwatches, including standouts like its Forerunner series, which is geared specifically towards runners, and Fenix range. With the Lily, Garmin is hoping to provide a smartwatch that packs the same performance as its predecessors into a smaller footprint.

According to Garmin’s press release, the Lily features a 34mm watch case — the company’s smallest to date — in a nod to “classic, jewelry-like timepieces” that are meant for smaller wrists. The new smartwatch also comes with a patterned lens, as well as six different colors to choose from. At launch, the Lily will be available in two different editions: the $250 Lily Classic, which comes with an Italian leather band with a stainless steel bezel and hardware, and the $200 Lily Sport, which switches to a silicone band with an aluminum bezel and hardware.

Garmin’s Lily Has The Features To Support Its Slim Design

The Lily is not just significantly smaller than other Garmin smartwatches, but than potential competitors too. For the sake of comparison, the Garmin Vivoactive 4S — the smaller version of the Vivoactive 4 — comes with a 40mm watch case. Elsewhere, the smallest available Apple Watch (the Series 3) is available in a 38mm case size. Garmin attempted to make a smartwatch crafted specifically for those with smaller wrists or who prefer smaller watch cases and, by all accounts, it has done just that.

It’s not just the Lily’s unique design, however, that helps gear the smartwatch towards a female demographic. The new watch is packed with what Garmin calls “industry-leading health and fitness features,” including stress, hydration, sleep, and heart rate monitoring, a Body Battery feature that monitors energy levels, step and calorie trackers, and a wide range of compatible sports apps for tracking workouts. The Lily also has built-in women’s health features, including menstrual cycle tracking and pregnancy tracking.

Smartwatches are, for all intents and purposes, considered to be unisex products. There’s nothing stopping anyone from purchasing a specific smartwatch, regardless of their gender. The Garmin Lily doesn’t change that and potential buyers should continue to seek out the smartwatch that has the best combination of design and features that fit their specific needs. With that being said, the Lily does present a good option for anyone who wants to take advantage of the product’s smaller size or women-focused features. For those reasons, the Lily is a welcome addition to Garmin’s roster of smartwatches.
