Everyone loves a good villain. When they’re really good, it’s easy to want them to stick around forever. But a lot of the best villains are so good because they don’t stick around forever. They come, and they do what they were trying to accomplish (or don’t, if the heroes successfully stop them), and then they’re no longer a part of the series.

Soul Eater has tons of villains, some of them more major than others. While some of them have left their mark on the series and viewers will be sad to see them go, others didn’t go away soon enough. Here are five villains viewers wanted to see more of in Soul Eater and five villains no one will miss at all.

10 Wanted To See More Of: Arachne Gorgon

Arachne Gorgon is one of the major villains of Soul Eater, but she’s also incredibly cool. Her look is so goth chic, with lots of spiderwebs, black hair, and pale skin. She even has a spiderweb design in her eyes. She’s one of those villains who makes everyone else do the dirty work for her, which is always fun to watch; it gives her a sense of being incredibly powerful. And her relationship with her sisters, in which she’s constantly arguing with them, makes her seem well-rounded, not a cliche cool-headed villain who seems unbeatable.

9 Stayed Around Too Long: Medusa Gorgon

Medusa Gorgon is one of three Gorgon sisters, and she is, arguably, the least interesting one. She also comes across as something of an anime cliche.

She’s a character who pretends to care about other people and comes across as kind and helpful initially. But deep down, she’s evil and out for her own ends. It’s a little too much of a situation viewers have seen in other anime.

8 Wanted To See More Of: Maba

Maba looks a little like a Kingdom Hearts character from the Nightmare Before Christmas levels. She’s pretty mysterious, and no one really knows much about her. But she is also likely the most powerful witch in the Witch Order, as shown by the fact that she’s the Queen. Her appearance of being someone pretty unassuming, all while maintaining power over those around her, makes her a very intriguing character.

7 Stayed Around Too Long: Free

Freeman is a werewolf, which is never the most exciting thing a villain can be. Plus, he’s immortal and immediately heals from all of his injuries.

He’s a boring kind of character to have around, since viewers know that he’s going to continue to be around, no matter what the heroes do. He also comes across as slightly overpowered, which again makes watching fights with him frustrating.

6 Wanted To See More Of: Eruka Frog

Eruka Frog is a relatively minor character, but she’s so weird that she’s definitely interesting and seems worth keeping around. She also doesn’t seem like a usual villain character in her appearance, with her strange dress and frog-like hat. Plus, the fact that her major attack is called the Tadpole Bomb, which is exactly what it sounds like, makes her just ridiculous enough to work.

5 Stayed Around Too Long: Giriko

Giriko is literally a character who overstays his welcome in the series. He initially works with Arachne and is part of Arachnophobia. So it would make sense that once the organization is destroyed, he would also disappear.

Instead, he just teams up with the next bad guy, under the guise of getting vengeance for Arachne’s death. It would have been better to see Giriko perish alongside her so that viewers could have new characters.

4 Wanted To See More Of: Jack The Ripper

Jack the Ripper does not get a fair shake in the series, and he’s one of the weirder and more interesting villains. He’s a serial killer in London, which makes sense since he’s named after London’s most infamous serial killer, but he has a cool monster-like body. He gets killed off almost immediately, which is a bummer. Seeing more of him throughout the series would have been great and would have added a sort of murder mystery element to the season.

3 Stayed Around Too Long: Little Demon

Little Demon seems a bit too much like an anime villain cliche.

His character design is a little too similar to things seen in other anime, and his goal is to take over Soul’s body and mind by driving him insane. He looks like a little devil, and he is just not terribly interesting as a character.

2 Wanted To See More Of: Justin Law

Justin Law sticks around for a long time in the series, but there’s just so much that’s interesting about him, it’s hard to not want to see more. He worships Death religiously, and a lot of his iconography as a character is religious. He even dresses a little like a monk. He eventually goes mad, but it would have been nice to see him continue his religious zealotry and devotion to Death.

1 Stayed Around Too Long: Noah

Noah is an interesting character, since he has seven different manifestations of himself, all to do with the Seven Deadly Sins. Unfortunately, that means that his gimmick can feel old really fast. Since he just changes incarnations as he leaves former ones, it feels like a bit of a slog to try to get through dealing with him. It definitely feels, for this reason, like he hung around way too long in the series.
