A bizarre Spider-Man: Miles Morales glitch is transforming the young web-slinger into a walking, web-slinging street lamp. The new spin-off to Insomniac’s critically acclaimed 2018 superhero hit Marvel’s Spider-Man was finally launched late last week on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, telling the tale of Brooklyn teen Miles Morales as he follows in the footsteps of Peter Parker to become a wall-crawling protector of New York City.

A game world as large and expansive as Spider-Man: Miles Morales’s take on the Big Apple is bound to carry a few bugs and glitches along the way, and players are reporting some truly strange occurrences going on as they set out to fight crime as Miles (and, occasionally, an adorable little feline sidekick). One especially noteworthy bug has the fledgling superhero randomly transforming into a Spider-Brick, although some gamers have had a far more illuminating experience when it comes to character-altering glitches.

Yesterday, SP1st reported that players have uncovered a bug while playing Spider-Man: Miles Morales in which Spidey suddenly turns into a walking street lamp. Two humorous YouTube clips by YongYea and Zet Q illustrate this strange phenomenon in action, as Miles takes the form of a nearly 10-foot tall lighting fixture following a busted robbery. As the scene transitions to a pair of grateful store owners thanking Miles for saving their business, the web-slinging hero has been replaced by the aforementioned lamp – which then proceeds to swing through the air overtop the busy New York streets with onlookers giving it no more of a thought than seeing their favorite superhero pass by.

So far, Spider-Man: Miles Morales has been gaining high praise from fans and critics for successfully building off of the gameplay that made its predecessor an instant classic back in 2018. Despite its smaller size in comparison to the first game, there is still plenty to see, do and unlock, including fun side quests and alternate costumes like the deliberately slowed-down animated look from Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and an in-game mural paying tribute to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Transforming into an actual street lamp might not be exactly what Miles had in mind when he set out to become a beacon of hope to the people of New York, but it’s still an amusing novelty for players who are currently swinging their way through Insomniac’s latest superhero adventure. Just like Spider-Brick beforehand, criminals will now have to be on the lookout for Spider-Lamp’s shining beam of justice during rounds of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which is now available on both the PS4 and PS5.
