SpiderMan No Way Home — 8 Characters Confirmed To Appear (And 8 Fans Are Hoping For)

The MCU’s third Spidey solo movie, recently revealed to be titled Spider-Man: No Way Home, has been the subject of hundreds of fan theories since the last movie’s bombshell cliffhanger ending saw the Daily Bugle revealing Peter Parker’s secret identity to the world. The casting of actors from other Spider-Man franchises created all kinds of buzz about a live-action Spider-Verse, which the Marvel powers that be have since downplayed.

A lot of exciting characters are confirmed to appear alongside Tom Holland’s Webhead in his latest and possibly his final big-screen adventure. And on top of those confirmed to appear, there are some others that fans are hoping for.

Updated Nov. 17, 2021 by Colin McCormick: The second trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home has hit, revealing more about the much-anticipated sequel. Along with delving deeper into the story, the trailer also confirmed several characters who were previously only rumored to be part of the movie. Of course, the trailer also seemed to be keeping its biggest secrets hidden from fans, leaving them still holding out hope that some other key characters will be popping up in Spider-Man: No Way Home when it hits theaters in December.

Confirmed:

Doctor Strange

Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as fellow Avenger Stephen Strange in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Though the news of Strange’s inclusion was reported long before filming, the trailers confirm that he has a significant role in the movie.

As the trailer indicates, Strange teams up with Spider-Man to help reverse his identity being revealed. Of course, that spell leads to disaster and it seems as though Spidey and Strange will be somewhat at odds in the story. This also might set Spider-Man up to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Ned Leeds

Given how charming the friendship between Peter and Ned has been in these movies, it’s no surprise Jacob Batalon returns in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Some fans even believe Ned will fulfill his comic book storyline and become the villainous Hobgoblin.

Though a villainous turn from Ned seems unlikely, the trailers prove Ned will still be there as Peter’s sidekick. Even with his relationship with MJ, it seems like Peter still wants Ned by his side and even brings him along to meet Doctor Strange.

Flash Thompson

Tony Revolori will be back in Spider-Man: No Way Home as Peter’s classmate and bully Flash Thompson, who’s characterized as much less aggressively macho in the MCU than in the comics.

Flash will have an intriguing role in this movie. The joke of his character has always been that he mercilessly bullies Peter and idolizes Spider-Man without realizing they’re one and the same. It’ll be fun to see his reaction to finding out Peter is Spider-Man.

Lizard

Lizard was the first villain to face off with Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man and will make his return in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The second trailer confirmed his appearance, with the monstrous villain seen fighting alongside some other key Spider-Man enemies.

Rhys Ifans played Curt Connors in The Amazing Spider-Man, but it remains to be seen if he reprised his role for this movie. The character is seen only in his Lizard form in the trailer, and it is possible he remains that way for his entire appearance.

Sandman

SpiderMan No Way Home — 8 Characters Confirmed To Appear (And 8 Fans Are Hoping For)

One of the three villains to appear in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 will also make his return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, as Sandman is also in the second trailer. He will be another member of the Sinister Six and is seen fighting alongside Electro and Lizard.

Similar to Lizard, Sandman appears in the trailer only in his “sand monster” appearance, making it unclear if Thomas Hayden Church reprised his role. While the trailer points out all these villains died fighting Spider-Man, Sandman survived at the end of Spider-Man 3.

Green Goblin

SpiderMan No Way Home — 8 Characters Confirmed To Appear (And 8 Fans Are Hoping For)

Though the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home hinted that some version of Green Goblin would appear in the movie, the second trailer confirmed that it would be Sam Raimi’s version. And though he does not appear in the trailer, Willem Dafoe’s voice can be heard.

Given that all these villains from previous movies are making their return, it makes sense that the very first Spider-Man movie villain would appear. It also wouldn’t be surprising if he served as the leader of the Sinister Six.

Electro

The casting that initially kicked off all the rumors of a live-action Spider-Verse was Jamie Foxx as Electro. Foxx had previously played an unfaithful version of the character as a spiteful loser in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Following the initial reports of Foxx reprising his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, all sides remained quite quiet on the matter. However, the second trailer did indeed confirm that Electro is one of the many villains that will be joining the sequel and that he is not blue as he was in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Doctor Octopus

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 is still considered by many to be the greatest superhero movie ever made. A huge part of that is Alfred Molina’s iconic portrayal of Doctor Octopus, with a delightful balance of mustache-twirling villainy and Frankenstein-ian nuance.

Following the reports of his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Molina defied Marvel’s strict secrecy and talked openly about appearing in the sequel. Since then, Molina has been featured heavily in the trailers and showing off his de-aged look.

Hope To See:

Netflix’s Daredevil

With news of characters from other Spider-Man universes coming into the MCU, fans started to think about what that could mean for other Marvel characters. While the Netflix Marvel shows were tied to the events of the MCU, they were ignored within the movies themselves. However, fans saw this movie as a potential opportunity to bring back Charlie Cox as Daredevil.

Given the fact that Peter will likely be experiencing legal trouble in the new movie, fans hoped to see Matt Murdock as his lawyer though those rumors remain unconfirmed.

Tom Hardy’s Venom

Sony has been able to launch its own Spider-Man cinematic universe thanks to the success of the Venom movies. However, since Venom is one of Spider-Man’s greatest villains of all time, fans understandably want to see them face off on the big screen.

The post-credit scene in Venom: Let There Be Carnage confirmed Tom Holland’s Spider-Man exists in this world. However, the connection between those movies and the MCU remains confusing and it is unlikely the packed movie would also fit Tom Hardy’s Venom in as well.

Kraven The Hunter

SpiderMan No Way Home — 8 Characters Confirmed To Appear (And 8 Fans Are Hoping For)

Given the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, many fans suspected the third movie would focus on Spider-Man on the run. It seemed like the obvious villain would be the big-game hunter Kraven who could hunt Peter down. However, Spider-Man: No Way Home obviously went for a much bigger storyline.

Kraven has also been confirmed to headline his own solo movie with Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the role. With the role already cast, it is possible Kraven could make an appearance, however, another secret villain might be too much at this point.

She-Hulk

One of the many Marvel characters with their own Disney+ show on the way is She-Hulk, aka Jen Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner and a lawyer who represents superheroes in court.

If Matt Murdock doesn’t show up to represent Peter, Jennifer could step in to defend him. It would be a fun cameo and would help to set up her own solo show that is said to be a legal comedy.

Mary Jane Watson

SpiderMan No Way Home — 8 Characters Confirmed To Appear (And 8 Fans Are Hoping For)

The romance between Peter and MJ in the MCU is incredibly charming, but for some fans, there is no beating the original relationship of Peter and Mary Jane in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies. Though Kirsten Dunst has denied her involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it would be great to see her return.

Peter and Mary Jane’s relationship was rocky in Spider-Man 3, but the movie ended with the hope they would reconcile. If Tobey Maguire does indeed return, it would be great to see the life Peter and Mary Jane built together.

Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker

SpiderMan No Way Home — 8 Characters Confirmed To Appear (And 8 Fans Are Hoping For)

Though The Amazing Spider-Man are generally unpopular, many fans praise Andrew Garfield’s role as the hero in those two movies. Garfield has passionately denied being involved in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but he is a good actor and could still be putting on a performance.

Garfield’s potential return as Spider-Man is especially exciting because it would give him one last chance to have fun with the character after a previous disappointing experience. It would also be interesting to see how his version of Peter Parker is coping with losing Gwen Stacy all these years later.

Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker

SpiderMan No Way Home — 8 Characters Confirmed To Appear (And 8 Fans Are Hoping For)

Ever since it was hinted that Spider-Man: No Way Home would deal with a multiverse storyline, fans have been wondering if the other Spider-Men would appear as well. Of course, such an ambitious feat would only be worth it if the first Spider-Man returned.

Fans have been looking for hints of Tobey Maguire’s return for months now. If he is indeed appearing in the movie, they have done a great job keeping it a secret. However, it is hard not to get excited about the prospect of seeing Maguire return to the role and lead a team of Spider-Men into battle.

Uncle Ben

When Spider-Man was introduced in the MCU, they wisely avoided giving him another origin story. However, these movies have always lacked one key element from Peter Parker’s story as Uncle Ben has never been directly discussed in the MCU.

If Spider-Man: No Way Home is indeed Tom Holland’s last solo Spider-Man movie in the MCU, it would be fitting for Uncle Ben to finally appear. Given the movie’s story, it is entirely possible for him to reunite with a version of his uncle from another universe.
