Cinemas are once again using fan-art of Spider-Man: No Way Home with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire to promote the movie. Marketing for the film started late, with the first trailer debuting at the end of August 2021. Around two months later, the second one dropped, and since then, a slew of marketing materials for the Jon Watts and Tom Holland Spider-Man project has been rolled out.

Despite the minimal effort to market Spider-Man: No Way Home, the movie’s premise has already been properly established. It picks up after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, with Peter Parker dealing with the ramifications of his secret superhero identity being revealed. He reaches out to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help, but instead of making things better, the sorcerer’s tampered spell only makes things worse, exposing Earth to various multiversal threats. Given the involvement of villains from Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s previous Spider-Man films, such as Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) and Electro (Jamie Foxx), many are still holding out hope that their respective variations of Spider-Man played by Maguire and Garfield will also appear.

As shared on Twitter by @cosmic_marvel, a couple of movie theaters’ websites feature various fan-created illustrations for Spider-Man: No Way Home. While the companies use different images, they both feature all three versions of the wall-crawler played by Holland, Maguire, and Garfield. In the thread that follows, a couple more fans share their personal encounters with the same thing, highlighting that this is happening in a few countries around the world. This isn’t the first time that theaters have used Spider-Man: No Way Home fan-art. Before the first proper poster was released, cinemas were forced to rely on unofficial one-sheets, or be left with nothing to fill their signs. But at this point, Marvel Studios and Sony have already rolled out a string of posters for the movie, so it’s curious that they don’t use them instead. Perhaps it’s because, until now, there’s still no concrete confirmation of Maguire and Garfield’s involvement in the blockbuster despite mounting evidence. The problem with this, however, is that it might mislead fans — especially casual moviegoers who aren’t as plugged in with these details. They could ultimately be disappointed in the event that Garfield and Maguire don’t show up in the movie.

If the aforementioned previous Spider-Man actors indeed appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, chances are their roles won’t be confirmed until the movie is released in a couple of weeks. Producer Amy Pascal recently admitted that it’s tricky keeping spoilers at bay knowing that fans are very invested in the blockbuster. Luckily, the public won’t have to wait much longer to finally see what happens in Peter Parker’s next adventure.
