SpiderMan No Way Home Receives A CinemaScore Highest for MCU in 2021

Spider-Man: No Way Home landed an A+ CinemaScore from audiences, the highest for any MCU film in 2021 and only one of four MCU films to earn that high of a rating. Spider-Man: No Way Home has finally hit theaters and anticipation for the film was high as it was not only the third chapter in the MCU Spider-Man trilogy but saw the return of fan-favorite villains from both Sam Raimi’s original trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man series. Multiple ticket selling sites crashed the night they became available to the public, indicating a big opening.

Currently, Spider-Man: No Way Home has earned $121 million on its first day of release, making it the second-biggest opening day box office ever, behind only Avengers: Endgame. The film is now projected to have an opening weekend of $240 million, making it the fourth-biggest opening weekend of all time. This is a major boost for cinemas after a difficult year recovering from the COVID-19 shutdown, as currently the biggest opening weekend of the pandemic was Venom: Let There Be Carnage with $90 million, a number Spider-Man: No Way Home beat in just its opening day.

Spider-Man: No Way Home has been received overwhelmingly positively by audiences as well, as according to THR, the film scored a coveted A+ CinemaScore from audiences. This is the best score an MCU film has received all year, with Black Widow scoring an A-, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings an A, and Eternals a B. Eternals made news recently as the lowest CinemaScore for an MCU film, so Spider-Man: No Way Home is certainly a nice recovery.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now one of four MCU films to receive an A+ CinemaScore. The other three films being The Avengers, Black Panther, and Avengers: Endgame. Those films all went on to become the highest-grossing films of their respective years at the domestic box office and are three of the top five highest-grossing MCU films of all time. Spider-Man: No Way Home is also the second Spider-Man movie to score an A+ Cinemascore, after 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: No Way Home currently has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and combine that with the strong audience score Spider-Man: No Way Home is sure to be the king of the holiday movie season. Even with competition from other franchise films like The Matrix Resurrections, The Kings Man, and Sing 2, it is likely Spider-Man: No Way Home will continue to hold strong as a movie that audiences return to see multiple times over the holidays with friends and family. Spider-Man: No Way Home is a movie many people waited years for, and it appears it was worth the wait.
