As Spider-Man prepares to return to the world of video games in a big way on the PS4, Insomniac Games is hyping its entry with some impressive Alex Ross cover art for Game Informer Magazine.

Video games and superheroes have a convoluted history with more misses than hits. However, while players typically try and forget entries like Superman 64, Catwoman, and Batman: Dark Tomorrow, Rocksteady’s Arkham games has led the way. As Insomniac prepares to release its wall-crawling adventure in 2018, the studio has spun a whole web’s worth of news about the upcoming installment.

In case Spidey fans weren’t already pumped to leap from the rooftops of New York City, the May issue of Game Informer is dedicated to the friendly neighborhood hero. The magazine reportedly spent two days alongside Insomniac to get a hands-on look at what is going on under the hood of Spider-Man. An exclusive coverage trailer reveals that the whole emphasis of the game is making the player feel like they are Spider-Man, getting to grips with a more established version of the character. You can watch that trailer in the space above.

As the video shows, there is an eclectic array of fighting styles alongside some iconic Spider-Man looks. Heading to the “0:24” mark, it seems that the classic Spidey suit could make an appearance during the game’s campaign. Everyone knows that fan-favorite Miles Morales will play a part in Spider-Man, but the game is much like Peter Parker and keeping itself rather mysterious.

Game Informer promises a whole 14 pages of news focusing on Spider-Man in its May edition. It sounds like there is plenty for avid gamers to get excited about, but the icing on the cake is some beautiful Alex Ross artwork on the cover. Ross is something of an old hand at drawing Peter Parker’s superhero alias, having previously provided concept art for Sam Raimi’s acclaimed Spider-Man 1 & 2. As the Game Informer cover shows, he hasn’t lost his talefor at making the reds and blues of Spider-Man’s suit stand out against the New York Skyline.

A whole team of Insomniac staff, including creative director Bryan Intihar, Spider-Man game director Ryan Smith, art director Jacinda Chew, and lead writer Jon Paquette, have provided material for the special edition issue, and there is also a tease that some never-before-seen concept art can be found in the magazine. With so much going on, it is no surprise that Game Informer’s website will be hosting a whole month of coverage in the run up to Spider-Man’s rumored Q2 release. Either way, prepare to enter a whole new era of Spider-Man games as Insomniac prepares to flush the competition down the drain.
