SpiderMans Age In Marvels Avengers Revealed By Developer

Crystal Dynamics has just cleared up a mild debate about how old Spider-Man is in Marvel’s Avengers. The ever-popular web-slinging crimefighter will be making his long-awaited debut in Marvel’s Avengers as a PlayStation-exclusive DLC character later this month, as shown in this week’s Marvel’s Avengers “With Great Power” event trailer.

Spider-Man’s involvement in Marvel’s Avengers was revealed well before the game even hit store shelves last August, with Crystal Dynamics stating that its version of Peter Parker will be different than the one featured in Insomniac’s critically acclaimed line of Marvel’s Spider-Man games. This, along with the fact that Spidey will only be available on the PlayStation version of Marvel’s Avengers, has served as yet another point of contention for Square Enix’s already divisive Avengers-based team action title, but there has been another, more mild debate about Peter’s age and status among the world of superheroes. Traditionally, Spider-Man has been portrayed as either a teenager still in high school and getting used to his powers or a more experienced crimefighter in his mid-20s/late 30s, but it seems like Marvel’s Avengers is placing its take on the hero somewhere in the middle.

As reported on CBR, Crystal Dynamics Senior Brand Manager Nick Edwards recently took to r/PlayAvengers to answer fan questions regarding Spider-Man’s eventual appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man. When someone asked how old Peter is in this version, Edwards explained that he is currently “around college-age” as of the events of Marvel’s Avengers. Edwards also noted that Crystal Dynamics’ version of Spider-Man has been fighting crime for a longer period than Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, but started his superhero career shortly after the A-Day event that created the Inhumans at the beginning of Marvel’s Avengers.

Spider-Man will be the fourth additional hero coming to Marvel’s Avengers in the form of a free DLC expansion, and the With Great Power event will feature several story missions that detail how Peter came to ally himself with the Avengers in their ongoing battle against the forces of A.I.M. Aside from story content, this month’s Marvel’s Avengers update will bring several alternate costumes for Spidey, including his silver-and-black Spider-Armor from the comics and PS1-era Spider-Man games and Spider-Man Noir. In the meantime, Spider-Man’s default red-and-blue outfit in Marvel’s Avengers has gained praise from none other than Marvel’s Spider-Man developer Insomniac not too long after it was first shown off in full earlier this week.

Some Marvel’s Avengers players had been wondering if the Crystal Dynamics version of Spider-Man would be a high school student like Tom Holland’s take in the MCU or an older hero like the one players controlled in Marvel’s Spider-Man, but now it seems that Nick Edwards has settled the matter once and for all. There is still some speculation about Spider-Man starting his crime-fighting career shortly after the A-Day disaster – such as his origin possibly being reworked to give him a stronger connection to that event – but fans won’t have to wait for answers once the Marvel’s Avengers: With Great Power update launches on November 30.
