SpiderVerse 2 Synopsis Teases SpiderPeople Team & UltraPowerful Villain

Sony releases the official Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) synopsis that teases a Spider-People team and an ultra-powerful villain. The animated film serves as a sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which centered on teenager Miles Morales as he is bit by a spider and gains superpowers, only to quickly be thrust into saving the world when Kingpin kills his universe’s Peter Parker and opens the door to the multiverse, bringing other webslingers over. Some of the other incarnations introduced included Peter B. Parker, Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, Peter Porker/Spider-Ham, Peter Parker/Spider-Man Noir and Peni Parker/SP//dr.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a smash hit upon release, grossing over $375 million at the box office and scoring rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, earning it the Best Animated Feature statues at both the Academy Awards and Golden Globes. Development on a sequel got underway prior to the film’s release, with production duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller returning and penning the script with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ David Callaham while Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld were confirmed to reprise their roles as Miles and Gwen. Following months of development, production on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) got underway in mid-2020 in time for a 2022 release.

On the heels of the trailer’s arrival, Sony has revealed the official Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) synopsis. The description confirms Miles’ status as the new full-time Spider-Man in his universe and teases his journey through the multiverse with a new Spider-People team and a battle against an ultra-powerful villain. The synopsis reads as follow:

“Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.”

The first trailer for the sequel not only came as an exciting reveal of the long-awaited sequel, but also teased an interesting dynamic between Miles and Oscar Isaac’s Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, as the two fought across multiple universes. The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) synopsis may not offer answers as to why the two webslingers are facing off, but it does establish other Spider-Man variants will be featured in the film. Following the trailer’s debut, Lord and Miller did tease that Miles would get to reunite with “some old friends” while also meeting a lot of new ones, which the plot details seemingly confirms.

The biggest question now to come from the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) synopsis is who the ultra-powerful villain is that the Spider-People team will face off against. The first film saw the likes of Green Goblin, Scorpion, Doc Ock and Prowler used as supporting villains whilst Kingpin was the primary antagonist, though given the film’s multiversal battle, the filmmakers could very well use a number of villains with the capability to jump between worlds. Additionally, with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse being split into two films, it could be further speculated that the villain may escape to fight another day after Part One hits theaters on October 7, 2022.
