With comic conventions on pause for almost a year now, fans are anxiously awaiting their chance to get back out there and show off their latest and greatest cosplays. The opportunity to see firsthand the hard work and most impressive skills of these enthusiasts is an inspiring experience that cannot be duplicated or understated.
But, for now, online is the closest anyone can get to the real thing, so it’s a good time to look back at some of the best cosplays from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. While the film is highly celebrated among fans, it’s not as common to encounter a play on Saw Gerrera or Bodhi Rook as it is Han Solo or Leia Organa, which makes it even more thrilling to catch these characters wandering the halls of a convention.
10 Jyn Erso
The solo photoshoot of Ida, more commonly known by her cosplay name as Starbit, is breathtaking. Her spin on the Rogue One poster background with the bright beach colors of Scarif, along with her facial expressions, emphasize the version of Jyn filled with hope.
Plus, her hair is flawless, something that can make or break any costume. In the team up photos with Spectre Cosplay’s Cassian, photographed by Carlos Adama, she shows off a couple other elements of her cosplay, including Jyn’s scarf and blaster.
9 Cassian Andor
What makes this kid’s version of Cassian so phenomenal is his attitude. He looks ready to take on the Empire, and his facial expression matches the same fierceness as Diego Luna’s when taking down an opponent with a blaster or just his words.
This is made even better by his father’s caption for the photos, “he’s been in this fight since he was six years old!” So, now the cosplayer known as Captain J isn’t a child dressing up as an adult; he’s the younger Cassian who was referred to in the film, elevating it to a whole new level.

Yes, there is a real person inside this K-2SO build! The artist, Nick Nims, also known as Cos-smith Cosplay or Nimsycraft, even has videos of himself making and testing out the suit. The task of not only creating this, but also designing it to be mobile and then supporting that weight all day makes this a victory worthy of the droid himself.
Photographers from GeekWire, as well as David “DTJAAAAM” Ngo and Justin Cosplay eagerly took these photos at the 2018 Emerald City Comic Con, where the artist debuted his masterpiece.
7 Chirrut Îmwe
Artist and cosplayer Kim Mazyck is able to embody characters in much more than appearance. Before stepping into a new role, Kim studies them and has even taken martial arts to help capture their body movement and mannerisms.

6 Baze Malbus
It’s no surprise that award-winning Philip Odango, also known as Canvas Cosplay, was able to pull off such a successful Baze cosplay. His work has received international attention and recognition, including founding Bros Who Sew, working as a global ambassador for sewing manufacturer SINGER, and writing Cosplay Professional Development Series.
Another one of his recognizable cosplays is Maui from Moana. He captures Baze’s sheer power and strength while holding his Staccato Lightning heavy repeater cannon, as well his gentler, contemplative side as he stares out at the ocean.
5 Bodhi Rook
Member of the 501st Legion, Dean Plantamura belongs to the Carolina Garrison as a Tusken trooper. From the moment he comes on screen, Bodhi has a disheveled look that instantly tells the audience he’s been through a lot. The faded, well-worn quality to Dean’s costume achieves this look perfectly, as does his hair, which is the ideal balance of messy and movie charming.
4 Orson Krennic
The second Director Krennic strides into a frame, fans know he’s more than a lackey for the Empire. He radiates intelligence, cruelty, and power. There’s an air about him that says he means business, which is precisely what Lynn Taylor brings with the sweeping of his cape as he walks and shots a calculating look while posing with his hands crossed before him. But, Lynn’s charity work with the 501st Legion and the Mandalorian Merc Costuming Club prove he’s anything like the character he’s embodying.
3 Lyra Erso
It’s rare to see anything referring to Jyn’s mother, Lyra Erso, and even harder to find a cosplay of the doomed hero. 501st Legion and Rebel Legion member Magdalena Vikström may be showcasing an uncommonly seen character, but, even if there were hundreds, she would still be one of the best.
Each element, from her robes to her hairstyle is an exact replica of the costume from the film. The bright pop of her red sash shows Lyra’s allegiance with the Force worshippers on Jedha like Chirrut.
2 Saw Gerrera
When a cosplay is so impressive it can be studied at any angle, it belongs on any best-of list. The amount of meticulous detail that went into John Mihailov and Jason Rochon’s build makes it a masterpiece on its own.
Shown here is Jason as the original rebel, Saw Gerrera. Each component looks exactly right and is in the precise location it should be, highlighting the craftsmanship of this 501st Legion member.
1 Jyn & Cassian
For all the Jyn and Cassian fans out there, this cosplay photoshoot is a dream come true. Cosplayers Aigue-Marine and Mr. Bell Boy re-enact the two rebels’ final moments on the beach of Scarif; their high-quality costumes making them instantly recognizable as the characters, as well as the bond between them as they accept their fate.
The gritty look of their costumes and makeup also tells fans the exact moment in Rogue One they belong to, which is an even greater testament to the handiwork of these talented cosplayers.
