Star Wars 10 Forgotten Sith Lords Who Could Play A Role In Disneys Upcoming Projects

The Mandalorian shocked Star Wars fans with the introduction of Jedi in season two, both current and former. Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano have nudged the series in a dramatic new direction. Given the time period, it’s unlikely Sith Lords could play a role. But they could in other potential Star Wars projects.

Sith Lords generally follow the Rule of Two in the saga, but throughout canon and Legends, there are a host of evil Force users that could potentially transition into the live-action canon. Some upcoming series, especially The Acolyte, could conceivably make use of any of these characters.

10 Ulic Qel-Droma

Ulic Qel-Droma is a major figure in the saga of the Old Republic, recounted in the Dark Horse Comics from the 90s. Though the stories are no longer canon, they don’t impinge in any way on the current canon and could very easily be brought in. Qel-Droma would be a great place to start.

A brave Jedi Knight in the mold of Luke Skywalker, he falls completely to the Dark Side and becomes a dark lord of the Sith. Some think the Knights of the Old Republic era is better than the original trilogy, and want to see it depicted on screen.

9 Darth Nihilus

Darth Nihilus is a Sith Lord during the same era as Ulic Qel-Droma. Nihilus has a unique, haunting look with his white mask that only slightly evokes the Ghostface mask from the Scream franchise.

Nihilus became one of three Sith Lords during this period, including Darth Traya and Darth Sion. Nihilus already has some connection to canon through the planet Malachor. He participated in a major battle on the planet, which the crew of the Ghost visited in one of the best episodes of Star Wars Rebels season two.

8 Darth Desolous

Darth Desolous is a Pa’un Sith Lord, from the planet Utapau, seen in Revenge of the Sith. Like Qel-Droma and Darth Nihilus, Darth Desolous hails from the Old Republic era, about 3500 years before the Battle of Yavin. His primary role in Legends occurred much later though.

A hologram of the Sith Lord appeared in The Force Unleashed video game, as Starkiller investigated a Jedi Temple on Yaga Minor. Starkiller had to fight the digital ghost of Desolous to proceed.

7 Lumiya

Lumiya is a major figure from the early Marvel Star Wars comics. This Imperial imposter infiltrated the Rebellion to get at Luke Skywalker and ended a paying a steep price for it. Shira Brie was no more, and in her place was the cyborg Lumiya, who would eventually become a Dark Lady of the Sith.

Lumiya could very easily fit into the timeline of The Mandalorian, about five years after Return of the Jedi. Her journey of revenge could make for an interesting element for a Luke Skywalker series, especially as Luke sometimes acted like a Sith himself.

6 Exar Kun

Exar Kun is technically in canon, thanks to an awesome Easter egg in Solo: A Star Wars Story. His obsidian mask appears in Dryden Vos’ den. He forms a link back to the Old Republic era he hails from and could open the door for other stories set within that period.

Kun, like Ulic Qel-Droma, had been a Jedi Knight before falling to the Dark Side. Exar Kun is one of the deadliest Sith in Star Wars history, waging a war across the galaxy that left many dead.

5 Darth Revan

Darth Revan is one of many Sith who takes after Darth Vader, at least in appearance. This masked villain is one of the more intriguing Sith from Legends. Darth Revan first appeared in Knights of the Old Republic and participated in the Mandalorian Wars.

This ancient conflict could potentially play some role in future Star Wars stories, especially given the prominence of the Darksaber. Many characters have wielded the Darksaber, including Tar Vizsla, an ancient Jedi Mandalorian who looks a lot like Revan.

4 Naga Sadow

Naga Sadow predates even the Sith of the Old Republic. Naga Sadow ruled the ancient Sith Empire 5000 years before the Battle of Yavin and fought in the Great Hyperspace War.

Sadow first appeared in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – Dark Lords of the Sith, part of the ongoing Tales of the Jedi series from Dark Horse Comics in the 90s that built out the ancient past of a galaxy far, far away. Sadow eventually placed himself in suspended animation, to be woken centuries later, a concept that could work in future projects.

3 Darth Bane

Darth Bane is probably the most important figure from Sith history, at least for the era of the Skywalker Saga. Bane created the Rule of Two, which did away with the infighting of armies of Sith and limited their power and schemes to a master and an apprentice, a system that lasted through Darth Sidious a thousand years later.

Darth Bane has appeared in canon already. The specter of Darth Bane appeared in “Sacrifice,” one of the best episodes of the sixth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

2 Darth Tenebrous

Darth Tenebrous was a Bith who emerged as a Sith Lord in the shadow of Darth Bane. He was incredibly powerful and intelligent. The name Darth Tenebrous first appeared in a blog entry by Leeland Chee, the keeper of the database at the official Star Wars website.

It was then used to create the Sith Master in fiction. Tenebrous is one of the least known Sith Lords, but plays a major role in the lineage of the sect, thanks to one of his two apprentices.

1 Darth Plagueis The Wise

Perhaps the most fascinating Sith Lord for any future Star Wars project to consider is Darth Plagueis The Wise. Chancellor Palpatine teasingly referenced the powerful Sith in the famous opera scene from Revenge of the Sith, one of the best things about the movie.

Plagueis plays a critical role in galactic history. Though the movie doesn’t explicitly say so, it’s understood he is Palpatine’s master. Later books fleshed out this dark relationship, and perhaps a series like The Acolyte, taking place at the end of the High Republic era, or fifty years before The Phantom Menace could explore the character of Plagueis.
