Since 1977, Princess Leia has been an icon for fans everywhere. The headstrong Princess of Alderaan was the first of many female characters to come who proved that women can be more than just the damsel in distress. And while Leia Organa started off that way in Star Wars: A New Hope when she is imprisoned, audiences quickly realized Leia is a force to be reckoned with.

Leia possessed razor wit and bold determination. The late Carrie Fisher contributed to the character with an equal balance of poise and dominance that made women want to be her. And in the years since, some of Leia’s most insightful lines have continued to inspire, as fans rewatch the series and fall in love with her all over again.

Talk about sass. Leia was a feisty heroine who was never one to bite her tongue. When Luke Skywalker and Han Solo disguise themselves as Stormtroopers to save the princess, Leia makes this comment toward Luke before he reveals his true intentions.

Her spite towards the guard who was keeping her imprisoned is petty and savage and audiences loved it.

Any line that Carrie Fisher has spoken as Leia Organa has always come out resolute and strong. In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Leia has this conversation with Han Solo about their son, Kylo Ren. Kylo has already made headway on his path to the Dark Side, but Leia begs to differ.

Han thinks that they have lost their son forever, but Leia urges him to see the light in him. When she says this, she says it with such deep assertion that it’s almost impossible to argue against her. Han does try to reconcile with Kylo, but, of course, we all know how that ends.

The Rebellion learns this when Leia directs this comment to the loveable (but big and ungainly) Chewbacca when he inadvertently got in her way.

During Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, the roles are reversed and Leia comes to Han Solo’s rescue. After being blinded by hibernation sickness from his incarceration at the palace of Jabba the Hutt, Han is terrified when someone enters the room.

When he asks who it is, Leia responds with the perfect, heart-warming answer: “someone who loves you.”

Leia is someone who always seems to know what she’s doing. She has that unwavering air of confidence that is truly inspiring. Leia and Han Solo’s constant love-hate relationship always has them at odds with each other.

After the Battle of Hoth, the Millennium Falcon is damaged and Han has to quickly land and repair it. He decides to do this by hiding in a crater. That’s when Leia says this to Han, as he flies into a cave. He simply responds, “yeah, me too.” Of course, the cave turned out to be a giant space worm, so maybe Han should have let Leia lead after all.

2 “No matter how much we fought, I’ve always hated watching you leave.”

This poignant moment between Leia and Han in Star Wars: The Force Awakens just pulls at the heartstrings. Both of them being stubborn and headstrong characters made their relationship difficult to sustain.

Throughout Star Wars’ elongated saga, Leia and Han have constantly bickered back and forth, although these fights were always sort of endearing. Judging by this quote, it’s obvious that the chemistry between these two never died.
