Star Wars 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Count Dooku

While the Star Wars prequels might not have had a whole lot going for them, one thing they did have was one of the coolest Sith Lords of all time (who just happened to be played by one of the greatest actors in history). He appeared in two Star Wars films, but his existence was cut rather short when Anakin executed him in Revenge Of The Sith.

We’ve put together a list of interesting facts about Count Dooku that you probably weren’t aware of, providing a whole new angle to the Jedi-turned-Sith.

10 Yoda Took Him On Missions As A Youngling

Count Dooku was one of the few Jedi that was trained by Master Yoda himself. This must be quite the honor for a young Jedi, placing a lot of responsibility at the feet of the currently good Dooku.

During his training, Yoda took Dooku on various missions, such as one to a planet called Lahsbane, as well as another to Kashyyyk, where Yoda fought off a Terentatek.

9 He Had A Sister

For a long time, Dooku had no contact with his sister, Jenza. Eventually, he met her at a festival (not the Coachella kind) and discovered his relation to her. After she tried to convince him to avoid the Dark Side, Dooku had Asajj Ventress kill her.

8 And A Brother

He also had a brother, Ramil, who was once saved from a racing accident by Dooku himself. Later in life, he became Count Of Serenno, before being killed by his brother. This seems to suggest that Dooku had a bit of a thing for murdering his own siblings…

7 He Was Count Of Serenno

After Dooku killed his brother, he took over his role as Count of Serenno. While this was the continuation of a position held by his brother and father before him, Dooku’s take on the role was far more sinister.

His title of Count comes from this role, and his trademark cape is an emblem of the powerful position, which he held all the way until his death at the hands of Anakin, even if we didn’t see him do a lot with his role.

6 He Trained Qui-Gon

One of the lesser-known elements of Dooku’s life again comes from his time spent as a Jedi. We might never have got to see Qui-Gon Jinn in the same room as him during any of Star Wars films, but it turns out that Dooku once trained Jinn. He was his padawan from the age of twelve, and actually managed to train him to a very high level of competency. Of course, Jinn later went on to train Obi-Wan, who Jinn frequently bragged about. In a way, the Obi-Wan we know and love wouldn’t exist without the input of Count Dooku…

5 His Journey Away From The Light Side Was Secretive

Many Jedi like to make it very well known when they make the move from the light side of the force to the dark; Anakin Skywalker, for example, killed many innocent children and dressed up in a terrifying black suit.

Count Dooku, however, left the Jedi Order after becoming disillusioned with everything it represented and left a relatively secretive life. That is, until Darth Sidious tracked him down and sought him as a replacement for his ‘dead’ apprentice.

4 He Had Encounters With The Hutts

The cameo from Jabba The Hutt in The Phantom Menace was seen as pandering by many fans of Star Wars, however, it did set up their presence in the prequel-period. Dooku involved himself in a plot to kidnap Jabba’s son and blame it on the Jedi in order to have the Hutts turn on the Jedi. His plan didn’t exactly work out, though.

3 He Trained Grievous and Ventress

While we know that Dooku once trained Qui-Gon Jinn before he was tempted by the Dark Side of the force, but Dooku had his fair share of dark apprentices as well.

He was able to teach Grievous how to use lightsabers to a high degree, but he wasn’t force-sensitive, unlike his other apprentice, Asajj Ventress.

2 And Then Darth Maul’s Brother

Dooku’s most interesting apprentice, however, was Darth Maul’s brother, Savage Opress. We got to see a lot of the planet Dathomir (where Maul and Savage Opress were born) in The Clone Wars. Much of this time was spent showing us Dooku’s training of the Nightbrother, with whom he believed he could become more powerful than Sidious and Maul.

1 He Fought With Darth Maul

The fact that Maul didn’t actually die in The Phantom Menace was one of the best things about The Clone Wars. We got to see Maul attempt to lure Dooku to his side, and while he failed to convince him, we saw a dramatic battle that put the two together against Mace Windu, Aayla Secura and Obi-Wan.
