Star Wars 10 Ways Leia Organa Got Better & Better

Despite being surrounded by the likes of the lovable scoundrel Han Solo, the heroes journey of Luke Skywalker, the iconic fear-inducing Darth Vader, and the ever-wise Obi-Wan and Yoda, Princess turned General Leia Organa manages to stand out as an inspiration and a brilliantly crafted character within the original trilogy and the entire Star Wars franchise.

With the late great Carrie Fisher, Leia made her way into six films in the franchise (and an extra one as a baby) and was a joy to watch every time. Somehow, there were so many ways in which the already amazing Leia got better and better.

10 Found Family

There are so many themes found throughout every piece of Star Wars content, and one of the most prominent and important is that of found family, a family that is not necessarily of blood relation but is still family all the same.

After the fate of her birth parents and her adoptive parents lost on Alderaan, Leia was left without a family until Luke, Han, and Chewbacca came into her life, as well as others like Artoo, Threepio, and Lando, and later the heroes of the sequels.

9 Fell In Love With Han

Another big part of Star Wars is romance, with a lot of the events of the Galaxy shaped by the love of Pamdé and Anakin. The greatest romance in the franchise, though, is Han and Leia.

The way their relationship evolves throughout the original trilogy, with the two getting married after it, is beautiful. The two separate, but they still love each other, and that love they share from Empire onwards is nothing but good.

8 Leader In The Rebellion

When fans first get introduced to Leia, she is a crucial member of the rebellion, but still representing Alderaan as Princess. Following the destruction of the planet, Leia rose in the ranks of the Rebel Alliance.

She became a General, a leader, and an even more vital part of the fight against the Empire. She was, in so many ways, the heart and soul of the rebellion and fought harder and more passionately than anyone else.

7 Helped Build The New Republic

When the Rebel Alliance was no longer needed to oppose the Empire, and the tyrannical organization had finally fallen a year after the Emperor’s death, it was time for the New Republic.

Leia, as she so often is in everything she does, led the rebuilding of the New Republic, and made it of the utmost importance in her life. Before its destruction at the hands of the First Order, the New Republic owed a lot of its creation to Leia.

6 Led The Resistance

With the rise of the First Order, while the New Republic was getting built, the Resistance was forced into birth, with Leia Organa its devoted and beloved leader.

Without Leia, the Resistance may never have been born, and without her, there is a huge chance it would never have lasted against the power of the First Order. While it affected her personal life, it improved the Galaxy, and Leia is to thank, it gave her more purpose.

5 Trained With Luke

One of the best moments from The Rise Of Skywalker, one of very few most fans loved, was the flashback scene where we find out Leia trained with Luke to become a Jedi.

Leia stopped training after sensing the death of her son, but the fact she trained in the Force allowed her to train Rey, in turn helping save the Galaxy even more and allowed her to survive, as well as help her grow as a person in the Force.

4 Opened Up More

One of the many positive things to come out of Leia’s relationship with Han, as well as her brother and friends, was how she opened up and embraced her emotions more.

Leia may well be the strongest and most admirable protagonist in the original trilogy, with everything she had been through and her dealing with it all being inspirational, but a lot of it had her a bit emotionally distant. Her opening up to people lets fans into her character more, serving only to have us love her that little bit extra.

3 Calmed & Matured

From her time in the original trilogy to her time in the sequel trilogy, Leia had changed quite a bit personality-wise, with some of it happening across the original movies, from when we first meet her in A New Hope.

While at first, she is hotheaded, aggressive, and sometimes overly-passionate, by the time of the sequels, she is calm, fully grown-up, and mature. She is in control of her emotion and does not let them cloud her judgments, nor does she get angry or rush into things.

2 Became A Teacher

Going back to Leia’s training from Luke, as well as her growth and maturity, in the sequel trilogy Leia is far more than a leader but a teacher.

Specifically, Rey and Poe get the brunt of Leia’s on-screen wisdom. She trains Rey as a Jedi following the death of Luke, and as for Poe, she teaches him how to be a reliable and true leader, not just a hotheaded pilot. She unloads valuable knowledge and lessons on them, bettering their lives, and improving her in fan’s eyes.

1 Incredible Fortitude

As mentioned earlier, Leia may be the strongest character in the original trilogy, and one aspect of her temperament and personality that only gets better and better is her unmatched fortitude.

Not only does she never give up in the face of adversity such as the Empire and First Order, but no matter what happens in her life, any loss she suffers, she marches on with her head held high. She loses her adoptive parents, her planet, her husband, her brother, her son twice, and remains the General, the Princess, and unbelievably strong.
