Star Wars Battlefront 2s Cut Ahsoka DLC Confirmed By Game Director

DLC for Star Wars Battlefront II almost included Ahsoka Tano and Assajj Ventress, as confirmed by former game director Dennis Brannvall. The sequel to Star Wars Battlefront’s reboot was roundly criticized when it first released in 2017 because of its reliance on microtransactions despite being full-price, but the game eventually developed a devoted playerbase after adding wealth of free DLC content over the years.

This is somewhat similar to the story of Ahsoka Tano, the Togruta Padawan apprentice of Star Wars icon Anakin Skywalker. Ahsoka first appeared in the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars and was initially received poorly by staunch fans. However, Ahsoka would soon win viewers over thanks to her character development throughout the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and its follow-up, Star Wars: Rebels, in which she’s a mature and capable Jedi and Rebel leader in her own right. Ahsoka recently made the jump to live-action in the second season of The Mandalorian, as played by Dying Light 2’s Rosario Dawson, and the character is set to receive her own Disney+ spin-off series titled Ahsoka.

As it turns out, Ahsoka Tano was almost a playable hero in Star Wars Battlefront 2 according to game director Dennis Brannvall. In a now-deleted Twitter thread (via The Bespin Bullpen) about DICE’s cut DLC content for both Battlefront games, Brannvall revealed the studio planed to include the fiery planet of Mustafar as part of Star Wars Battlefront 2’s Clone Wars DLC – along with Ahsoka Tano and her rival-turned-ally Assajj Ventress. However, this never made it to release, and the game’s Battle Of Scarif content was ultimately the final update for Star Wars Battlefront II.

Rumors of Ahsoka and Ventress in Star Wars Battlefront 2 were widespread long before Brannvall’s recent revelation, as dataminers previously uncovered references to both characters within Battlefront 2’s source code alongside mentions of Coruscant and Padme Amidala. This is far from the only instance of cut content when it comes to DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront series, as a planned third game was said to have been canceled by EA due to licensing costs.

A common complaint which continued even after the multiplayer game’s free DLCs released was Star Wars Battlefront 2’s lack of female heroes, so having Ahsoka and Ventress as playing characters would have likely been welcomed by the community. Still, DICE could eventually spotlight Ahsoka and Ventress if EA greenlights a Star Wars Battlefront 3, but that likely won’t come anytime soon since the Battlefront 2 developer is reportedly focusing on the sequel to Battlefield 2042.
