Master Kenobi is one of the most important figures on the Jedi Council. His wisdom, patience, and character are as vast and deep as the Force itself, but that doesn’t mean he’s a stoic as some of his peers and companions. On the contrary, old Obi-Wan can be quite the snarky sass-master when the mood strikes him.

As well as being a wise old wizard, Kenobi is a wily fox of a Force-user that has no shortage of wit and humor. From jabs at his padawan to musings on life and the universe, there’s more than one light side to this Jedi Master.

10 “Anything Is Possible. You Haven’t Exactly Impressed Me Today.”

Even in the face of certain death, Kenobi is quick with a quip, but Grievous does make it a little bit easy for him. Star Wars: Clone Wars certainly shows more than a few instances of the Jedi’s wit, and not even the likes of General Grievous will throw him off.

Droids on every side of him, a battle sure to roll out, and yet he still feels the need to exchange a verbal barb with the cyborg villain. Can’t say the guy isn’t fearless.

9 “At Least You’re A Master… At Getting Caught.”

Not even Kenobi’s friend and padawan is immune from his jabs, and this one is a stinger. Using Anakin as a hostage to get into a stronghold where Dooku is being held is one thing, but this little dagger is a bit of a blow.

Aren’t teachers and mentors supposed to educate, uplift, and encourage their students? One would hardly think verbal hazing would be allowed in the Jedi circles, but this feels a little extra salty.

8 “And Here I Though This Mission Would Be Unpleasant.”

Does this count as fraternizing with the enemy? On several occasions, Ventress and Master Kenobi begin their duels with flirtatious exchanges before locking lightsabers. It’s mainly to complement the dance-like styles of their fight sequences, but surely there’s not something going on here, is there?

Kenobi is obviously toying with the assassin, but it’s still a side of the character that should have come out more. If anything, it shows just how elastic and quick his quips can be.

7 “After All, The Count Is An Elderly Gentleman…”

Rember the Clone Wars episode dedicated to completely roasting Count Dooku? Obi-Wan sure does. When Obi-Wan and Anakin have to rescue Dooku after he’s captured by a band of raiders, he doesn’t skip on the witty lashings when the Sith Lord decides to get an attitude during their escape.

Oh, the absolute shade this man throws. Everything from Dooku’s age to his appearance and abilities gets thrown to the verbal meat-grinder. Is it any wonder “Dooku Captured” is one of the best in the series?

6 “I Don’t Mind Flying But What You’re Doing Is Suicide.”

It’s interesting how Kenobi will utter this phrase and then refer to Anakin as “the best star pilot in the galaxy” a decade or two later. The chase scene from Episode II is indeed one of the most entertaining moments in the film, and that might be due to the Jedi’s frequent comments on Anakin’s flying skills.

In Obi-Wan’s defense, who hasn’t blurted out something when riding shotgun with their friends as they pull a risky road maneuver? One with the Force or not, it’s one of those moments that displays the guy’s human side.

5 “You Don’t Want To Sell Me Deathsticks.”

It’s one of the most quoted moments in the prequel trilogy, and possibly one of the best moments in Obi-Wan’s career. It’s certainly a creative use of his trademarked Jedi Mind Trick, to say the very least.

Of all the ways to get some annoying creep to buzz off, this use of mind manipulation is such an Obi-Wan Kenobi move. Now, if only this were an ability one could learn in this galaxy.

4 “Well, If Droids Could Think, There’d Be None Of Us Here Would There?”

Interesting choice of words there, Master Kenobi. Although the conversation is referring to the capabilities of analysis droids, there’s a hidden word of caution there amongst the witty wordplay.

Although most of them are friendly at the best of times, some of the droids in the Star Wars universe can be entirely dangerous. The only reason the galaxy hasn’t seen a Skynet-esque takeover is due to their limited A.I. There are some smart droids out there, but hopefully, they don’t get too many bright ideas.

3 “Oh No, I’m Not Brave Enough For Politics.”

Obi-Wan’s only saying what millions of people already think, but there’s no denying the nugget of truth in this little quote. Sometimes, dealing with Sith Lords, assassins, and battle droids can be easier than playing a part on the political stage, and this line says it all.

Joking aside, this line might be foreshadowing the Republic’s downfall. If the Council had had more of an ear in the senate, Palpatine might have been found out sooner.

2 “Why Do I Get The Feeling You’re Going To Be The Death Of Me”

Speaking of lines that foreshadow catastrophic events, this inside joke from Episode II offers a healthy serving of dark humor between Master and Apprentice. There is such a thing as a self-fulfilling prophecy, whether Kenobi knew it or not is up for debate.

The defeat of Obi-Wan in A New Hope surely took viewers by surprise when it was first seen in 1977, and this bit of dialogue was a perfect tongue-in-cheek call back to the original film. That being said, it might have been a little salt in the wound for some.

1 “So Uncivilized.”

Even a Jedi Master knows to never bring a gun to a knife fight, and these two words serve as the post-mortem one-liner after defeating Grievous in Revenge of the Sith. A Jedi’s weapon of choice might be one of the best in all the galaxy, but a well-aimed blaster never fails to get one out of a pinch.

Seeing Obi-Wan literally shoot out his opponent is a little jarring, but it comes across as shockingly comical to watch an elegant swordsman take a cheap shot to save his skin. Uncivilized it may be, but it certainly is effective.
