Star Wars Reveals Naboo Built A Shrine To QuiGon Jinn After His Death

In author E.K. Johnston’s new Star Wars novel, Queen’s Hope, it was revealed that Naboo built a shrine to Qui-Gon Jinn after his death. Star Wars: Queen’s Hope is the third and final installment in Johnston’s Amidala series, released on November 2. The book comes on the heels of Queen’s Shadow and Queen’s Peril. Johnston, who’s been a self-proclaimed fan since she was 15-years-old, centered the trilogy around Padmé’s early life, from the senate floor to her marriage with Anakin Skywalker.

Star Wars fans know that Padmé’s story ended in tragedy after the events of Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, but Johnston will explore a happier side of the senator’s life. The novel will explore the early stages of Anakin and Padmé’s secret marriage, which was briefly explored in Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the Clones. These were also the pivotal years in Padmé’s political career, as the galaxy verged on the edge of a civil war. Siding with the Republic, Padmé and the Jedi found themselves face-to-face with the Separatists, launching the start of the Clone Wars.

Johnston gave readers a sneak peek at the new book on StarWars.com, which follows the hours before Padmé and Anakin’s sunrise wedding, and reveals a shrine dedicated to Qui-Gon Jinn. Anakin is seen traveling to pay respects to Qui-Gon’s shrine on Naboo, nearly 10 years after the Jedi Master’s death. The segment can be read below:

“There was a shrine to Qui-Gon Jinn’s memory on Naboo. Ten years had passed, but it was still a popular pilgrimage site. It wasn’t the right time of year for memorials, so when Anakin commandeered the house speeder and went out to see it that morning, it was mostly deserted.”

Clearly, Qui-Gon’s sacrifice in the Duel of the Fates didn’t go unrecognized by the residents of Naboo. Since Qui-Gon was defeated by Darth Maul in order to defend the planet, it’s not surprising that a shrine would be constructed in his honor, but never before has it been mentioned in any Star Wars properties. In the novel, Johnston describes his shrine as “a popular pilgrimage site,” and shows Anakin reflecting there in the hours before his wedding. Johnston writes that Anakin “would always appreciate the Master’s advice,” and since Qui-Gon and Anakin were close, it makes sense that Anakin would head to the site in order to reflect.

The Star Wars prequels seem to be increasingly important to the ever-expanding universe, with The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett all detailing the long-term consequences of the Empire. But the Disney+ shows aren’t the only new content coming out of the franchise. Star Wars: Queen’s Hope is just one of many recently-announced Star Wars novels that will explore never-before-told tales from across the galaxy, with Shadow of the Sith, Stories of Jedi and Sith, and Padawan all set to arrive throughout 2022. It’ll be interesting to see how Johnston’s Amidala trilogy comes to an end, and what new information will be revealed about Padmé leading up to her death.
