Star Wars Reveals New Details Of Attack Of The Clones Ending Time Gap

An upcoming Star Wars book will explore further details surrounding the time gap at the end of Episode II – Attack of the Clones. The first book of E.K Johnston’s Amidala series, Queen’s Shadow, was published in March of 2019. The novel explored the inner workings of Padmé’s transition from Nabooian Queen to Galactic Senator. The second novel, Queen’s Peril, was released in June of 2020. However, its story was a prequel to Queen’s Shadow and took place partly simultaneously with Episode I – The Phantom Menace. The final book in the series will be released on April 5, 2022, and will take place primarily between Attack of the Clones and Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Queen’s Hope will see Padmé’s story continue into the Clone Wars as she adapts not only to being a wartime senator but to her recent secret marriage to Anakin Skywalker.

The marriage of Padmé and Anakin is seen at the ending of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. The film showcases the building relationship between the two characters after being reunited on Coruscant in the opening act. Following several assassination attempts on Padmé, Anakin is assigned to protect her as she returns to her home-world of Naboo. While there, the two fall in love before eventually being whisked away on an adventure to the planet Geonosis to save Anakin’s master Obi-Wan Kenobi. The ensuing climactic battle is the spark that triggers the Clone Wars, and Anakin loses his right arm in a fight with the Sith, Count Dooku. Following these events, the film cuts to Naboo sometime after the fight and shows Anakin, now with a mechanical arm, and Padmé being married with R2-D2 and C-3PO as the only witnesses.

In a new excerpt from Johnson’s Queen’s Hope released on the Star Wars website, more details are revealed about what actually occurred between the Battle of Geonosis and Anakin and Padmé’s wedding. While it still isn’t entirely clear how much time passed between the events, the excerpt reveals that the couple returned to Naboo shortly after the battle, as Padmé is recovering from her wounds and Anakin is adjusting to his mechanical arm. The excerpt details Padmé and Anakin’s individual experiences on the morning of their wedding day. Anakin visits a shrine to Qui-Gon Jinn, while Padmé goes for a swim in a lake before being visited by the Nabooian Queen Jamillia. The Queen asks Padmé to rescue five members of the Torada Collective who were trapped behind enemy lines when the war began. Padmé accepts the mission and recruits Anakin by promising they’ll be back in time for the ceremony that evening.

Additionally, the excerpt details the exact moment Anakin knew he wanted to marry Padmé. It reads that Anakin made the decision in the kitchen of his stepfather’s house while watching his stepbrother Owen and his wife Beru prepare lunch. The call to adventure for Anakin and Padmé on their wedding day is also a new addition to the Star Wars canon, which is sure to add further depth to the bond the two share.

Exploring the further details of Anakin and Padmé’s adventures together is the exact kind of material that makes the myriad of newer Star Wars novels so intriguing to fans of the series. As the final chapter of this trilogy, Queen’s Hope is poised to bring the most emotional weight and personal finality to the character of Padmé before the eventual tragedy that awaits her in the final act of Revenge of the Sith.
