Star Wars The Clone Wars Could a LiveAction Movie Be In the Works

To the delight of many fans, Disney recently confirmed that Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen will be reprising his role in the upcoming Ahsoka series. With the return of Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Clone actor Temuera Morrison, it’s clear that Disney is no longer shying away from the Prequel Era. And with spin-off movies becoming the new norm for Star Wars, here’s a look into the likelihood of a live-action The Clone Wars movie.

Since Disney acquired the rights to Star Wars in 2012, not only has there been minimal prequel content, but for the first several years, all-new Star Wars media barely even acknowledged it. Star Wars: The Clone Wars was canceled and replaced by Star Wars: Rebels show, no movies mentioned the time period and even the new-canon books barely spoke about the Clone Wars.

It wasn’t until more recently that Disney began embracing the franchise’s past. In the last two years, Star Wars: The Clone Wars was allowed an incredible conclusion, Star Wars: The Bad Batch picked up where that show left off and Season 2 of The Mandalorian featured live-action characters from the Prequel Era for the first time. Even glimpses into Din Djarin’s past have shown brief looks at classic Battle droids, giving just a taste of what a live-action Clone Wars would look like with modern technology.

Despite all of the new acknowledgments of The Clone Wars, however, Disney still has yet to announce any live-action Prequel Era media. With ten new shows and movies announced to be on their way, all of them take place post-Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. But hope is not lost, as all within a year, the actors for Obi-Wan, Anakin and the Clones have all made their return to Star Wars, meaning now would be as good a time as any for Disney to begin developing a new prequel movie.

Considering many people who grew up with the Prequel Era, the success of The Clone Wars: Season 7 and the positive reception to returning characters, it seems like only a matter of time before Disney announces some new live-action prequel content. The only possible downside is that, with so many projects already in the works, fans could be left waiting a long while. But who knows, the upcoming Ahsoka and Obi-Wan Kenobi shows could very well feature detailed Clone Wars flashbacks, providing another taste of what’s to come.
