Star Wars Why Aayla Securas Order 66 Death Was So Brutal

During the Republic’s final days, the Star Wars universe was dealt a massive blow to the light side of the Force. In one swift command, Emperor Palpatine activated Order 66. The protocol was implanted via chip into every soldier in the clone army and, once activated, forced the soldiers to execute all Jedi in their vicinity. The Great Jedi Purge put to rest a massive number of Jedi and, with their deaths, ended any missions and mysteries that were still left to be completed.

Of all of the Jedi that fell on that fateful day, none seemed as brutal as the death of Aayla Secura on the vibrant planet of Felucia. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith shows the young Twi’lek being gunned down by her clone battalion. Sadly, when she fell, she was distracted by a bird and unable to react. However, the shot lingers for a few more seconds and shows the clones continuing to fire on her inert body. Many questions have arisen from her terrible demise as fans try to figure out why the clones seemed so cold-blooded towards her.

Much like her master, Quinlan Vos, Secura chose to walk her own path while heeding the Jedi Order. This was shown in her choice of clothing and the way she wielded her lightsaber with a reverse grip. Secura cared deeply for her master, who was uniquely strong in the Force. Many theorists believe that she was also immensely powerful in the Force. If this was case, the reason for the clones gunning her down may have been to ensure that she wouldn’t get up to inflict massive damage with her abilities.

Most of Secura’s adventures don’t show her using any immense strength in the Force during the Clone Wars. Even so, it is entirely possible that her abilities hadn’t manifested fully yet. Alternatively, her strength could’ve been channeled through her fighting ability which utilized lightsaber combat Form IV and Form V, and included an abundance of acrobatics and offensive moves at great speed.

Another theory that was presented tied heavily into Secura’s relationship with her clone battalion. Due to the many years that the Jedi spent with their clone troopers, many bonds were formed between the two groups. Some of the best examples include Captain Rex and Ahsoka Tano or Commander Cody and Obi-Wan Kenobi. With that logic, the clones may have continuously fired on Secura because they remembered the history they shared with her and wanted to make sure her death was swift and painless. If true, that would make their final act as clone troopers one of the most merciful of the Purge.

Aayla Secura was one of the most compassionate Jedi in the order. Due to that, her violent end has been considered one of the most brutal of the Great Jedi Purge. Secura’s death also represents the swift and surgical devastation that the Emperor had set out to achieve. It takes a lot to kill a Jedi, and even Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace didn’t believe it was possible to defeat them all. However, the Emperor proved him wrong by wiping out nearly every one of them in one fell swoop.

The death of almost every Jedi came swiftly and violently. During the event, some of the last feelings that surviving Force-users felt were betrayal and pain. Even Secura’s death reached out to Yoda, who was on a completely different planet at the time. The exact reason why the clones fired so many times on Secura remains a mystery. Nevertheless, that mystery has allowed fans to come together, yet again, to speculate on the many other mysteries in the Star Wars universe.
