Trumbull Valley will return in State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition, alongside the Homecoming update on September 1. As many a fan may recall, Trumbull Valley was the first map in the original State of Decay, which released in June 2013 on Xbox 360 before launching on PC via Steam the following November.

Developer Undead Labs and publisher Xbox Game Studios rolled out State of Decay 2 around mid-2018, further expanding upon the zombie survival experience. However, a litany of technical issues beset the title at launch, as did criticism that it lacked any real sense of depth. Undead Labs has worked to alleviate these troubles in the last three years across multiple post-launch updates. The March 2020 release of a Juggernaut Edition greatly enhanced the sequel, thanks to a graphical and lighting overhaul that especially shines on the optimized Xbox Series X|S version with its 4K boost capable of reaching up to 60fps. Now yet another noteworthy update is imminent.

Xbox’s presence at gamescom 2021 resulted in fresh details about Undead Labs’ future plans for State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition. Come Wednesday, September 1, players on PC and Xbox Series X|S will gain access to the Homecoming update, an all-new content drop featuring a remastered version of Trumbull Valley. Previously unseen characters will inhabit the map, along with fresh storylines and developments that should resolve “long-running plot threads,” according to Xbox Wire. Trumbull Valley will additionally play host to exclusive weapons, outfits, and six bases, news that should please the Juggernaut Edition’s base of 10 million players.

Fans of the survival game, evidently, have plenty to look forward to come September 1. The new map and weapons could especially serve as motivating factors for lapsed players to return to Undead Labs’ apocalyptic open world.

While the studio continues to unleash updates for State of Decay 2, the wait for fresh details concerning State of Decay 3 persists unabated. Xbox announced the third entry during the Xbox Showcase 2020 last July, promising an adventure that will launch exclusively on PC and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Concrete information about the project remains scant at best; in fact, neither Xbox nor Undead Labs have so much as confirmed a potential release window.
