Stranger Things Season 4 Will Change How Powerful Fans Think Eleven Is

Stranger Things season 4 has the potential to change viewers’ perception when it comes to Eleven’s powers by involving fellow Hawkins Lab test subjects. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and her superpowered “siblings” are the focus of the latest teaser for the Netflix series. The footage comes over a year after the initial season 4 teaser, which revealed Jim Hopper (David Harbour) was alive but imprisoned in Kamchatka, Russia. Though the teaser didn’t confirm a release date, it indicates Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine) will be back with a hint other test subjects will be a focus of the new season.

The new Stranger Things season 4 teaser jumps back in time to when Brenner was orchestrating Project Indigo, a spinoff initiate from Project MKUltra that focused on the powers of young children. While most of the test subjects were playing in a common area, the Rainbow Room, Eleven was shown separated from the rest of the group, kept behind a door labeled “11.” Aside from Eleven, Kali (Linnea Berthelsen), aka Eight, has been the only other test subject raised by Brenner to appear in the series. Several notable test subjects exist in Stranger Things Extended Universe, and they will likely appear in season 4.

Leading into Stranger Things season 4, Eleven is without her powers, having lost them while battling the Mind Flayer in the previous installment. Whether or not Eleven gets her telekinetic abilities back, the series seems like it will be using flashbacks to dive back into the character’s origins while trapped in Hawkins Lab. In doing so, Stranger Things can give fans a look at fellow test subjects, specifically, their unique powers. There’s no doubt Eleven is immensely powerful when her psychokinetic abilities are at the ready. However, showing the powers of others could show Brown’s character from a different perspective.

Eleven was seemingly kept alone in Brenner’s Lab due to her potential as the presumed strongest among the test subjects. Granted, her “siblings” aren’t figures to ignore in terms of their abilities. Kali already demonstrated her powers of illusion casting, but according to the EU, other test subjects have abilities that include emotional manipulation, precognition, and heat generation. If these powers are put on display, there will finally be a chance to further gauge Eleven’s powers against others. In doing so, viewers might change their perception when analyzing Eleven’s abilities to decide for themselves whether or not Brenner was justified in focusing on the young girl for his experiments.

Eleven has already shown she’s capable of going toe-to-toe with Demogorgons, Demodogs, and the Mind Flayer. If the creature from the Upside Down didn’t leave a piece of itself in her leg, she would likely have had a bigger role in defeating the monster during the Battle of Starcourt. As for the other test subjects, a handful of them carried out an escape from Hawkins Lab in the EU’s comics series. There was also Jamie, aka Nine, who lost control of her heat generation powers, and later burned down the facility she was being held in. This proves the Netflix series has only scratched the surface when it comes to the strength of the test subjects.

Conversely, Stranger Things could bypass the notion of comparing the powers of test subjects by allowing the figures to combine powers. Whether in the past or through a reunion in the present timeline, it would be thrilling to see the “siblings” reunite for a new mission. This could give them a chance to synergize their respective abilities to defeat Brenner or face-off with an even greater threat. Maybe the connection with a “sibling” would act as a battery to recharge Eleven, allowing her to regain her telekinesis in time for the next encounter with the Mind Flayer.
