Succession 10 LowKey Villains On The Show

In a show full of villains, some are more subtle at plotting than others. While the core Roy family is either at each other’s or their competitor’s throats, lingering on the outside of their most inner circle are those taking advantage of the family’s wealth and power.

Typically, the low-key villains on Succession usually hold an element of surprise or are lower on the power spectrum than the Roy’s. Occasionally, their villainous behavior may also be underestimated by the audience themselves due to their lack of screen time.

Marcia

Succession 10 LowKey Villains On The Show

Being the massively wealthy and elderly Logan’s third wife, Marcia has drawn skepticism from the Roy children for being a golddigger. Furthermore, as a married couple, Marcia can supersede the Roy children in the case that Logan has a medical emergency and, perhaps, even in business matters.

Just as Logan is careful to reveal his hand to the audience, viewers are mostly in the dark on Marcia’s true intentions. However, the chipper way she goes about negotiating with Logan’s lawyers over their marriage contract in recent episodes demonstrates that she has likely been in it solely for the money all along, and Logan was perhaps just a presence to be tolerated.

Cousin Greg

Succession 10 LowKey Villains On The Show

Cousin Greg is widely loved among Succession fans for being a bumbling dose of self-deprecating humor in the show. Even Greg is usually the token nice guy, he has also shown that he’s capable of thinking steps ahead when he needs to.

When he was ordered by Tom to shred hundreds of incriminating documents describing the company’s poor handling of the cruise line scandal, Greg obliged. While shredding the documents, he slyly decided to keep some of the most important documents of the scandal for himself. When Kendall was gently blackmailed by Greg with these documents in order to get a better position at work, Kendall could only be proud and impressed.

Willa

Harboring theater aspirations, Willa views her relationship with Connor as a business one. As long as she continues to be his escort, he will, in exchange, fund her work as she moves to be a playwright, producer, and director.

Witnessing Willa and Connor’s relationship play out on screen is both hilariously and sadly pathetic. With Connor genuinely in love with Willa, any reluctant affection she returns is obviously being paid for by him. However, Willa also seems to see a future with him in the sense that the further Connor wants to take their relationship, the larger his offers to help her career will have to be.

Jamie Laird

Succession 10 LowKey Villains On The Show

As Logan’s main finance contact, Laird advises him in season two that he believes Waystar’s best move would be to go private. However, Laird holds a strong conflict of interest as he and his banking firm would stand to make money off of any potential deal made by Logan.

After helping Roman and Karl spearhead a possible deal with the son of a Turkish wealth magnate, Eduard, Laird reports back to Logan that the negotiation went well and that Waystar would certainly be able to go private. Except, Roman sees right through Laird and admits to Logan that they couldn’t trust a shady Eduard. Called out by Roman for his underlying conflict of interest, Laird exits the meeting with a warning that Waystar’s demise is inevitable.

Uncle Ewan

Succession 10 LowKey Villains On The Show

Being the biggest critic of his brother and Waystar’s ethical convictions, Uncle Ewan’s character tends to act as the voice of good on Succession. However, even as the pseudo-moral compass of the show, Ewan is also capable of low-key villainous behavior.

When Marcia invites Ewan to Thanksgiving dinner with the rest of the Roy family as an olive branch towards her estranged brother-in-law, Ewan agrees to come. Though, unbeknownst to his relatives, the only reason he agreed was that he was actually planning on showing up to vote against his brother in the vote of no confidence.

Gerri

Succession 10 LowKey Villains On The Show

In the second episode of the entire series, Gerri makes her debut appearance to tell Kendall and the audience about Waystar’s major debt problem. At first, her character appears to come out of nowhere, only for her to suddenly be the one who seemingly knows everything.

Temporarily named the CEO of Waystar by Logan, Gerri has established herself as one of the Roy family’s most indispensable associates. At the same time, even she has admitted to being “an incredibly dangerous enemy”, and Logan understands he can’t trust her enough to grant her too much power while he steps aside amidst the cruise line scandal.

Caroline

Succession 10 LowKey Villains On The Show

Although the show revolves around family dynamics, Kendall, Shiv, and Roman’s mother, Caroline, is largely an absent figure throughout the story. Similar to Logan, she seems to keep her children at an arm’s length from herself emotionally and treats their vulnerable moments with a psychopathic coldness.

This could most obviously be seen in season two when Kendall comes to his mother’s house late at night after clandestinely dropping money off for the family of the waiter he accidentally killed. Evidently distraught and holding back tears, he asks Caroline if he can tell her about something he did. With hardly any concern, she tells him she’d rather not hear about it because she’s too tired for such a discussion.

Marianne

Succession 10 LowKey Villains On The Show

In some way shape or form, every member of the Roy family is plotting against one another or actively seeking to take advantage of each other. Similar to Caroline, Greg’s mother Marianne makes only the rare appearance on the show, but when she does she’s reflecting behavior that the rest of the family shares.

Despite probably being well-aware of the family’s toxicity, Marianne urges Greg to get involved with them by attending Logan’s birthday dinner to ask for a job at Waystar. While Greg seemed to have no real desire to join the company, Marianne was the one who plotted the course out for him. Her ability to calculate the next moves are even on display when she advises Greg to listen to the Roy sibling who appears to have the most power.

Sandy

Succession 10 LowKey Villains On The Show

As one of Logan’s greatest enemies, Sandy is constantly scheming against Waystar to further his own rival media conglomerate. However, he is largely a mystery to the audience and makes few but impactful appearances on the show.

At the end of season one, Sandy, Kendall, and Stewy plan a hostile takeover of Waystar. Sandy is the one who, in spite of not actually being featured in the episode, pushes for the takeover to take place on Shiv’s wedding day because Logan is out of town. Behind the scenes, Sandy is perhaps the biggest lingering threat to Logan’s empire.

Kendall

While Shiv, Roman, and Connor tend to be fiercely loyal to their father at the end of the day, Kendall has separated himself as an outsider from the show’s inception. Due to Kendall’s consistent, individual attempts to push Logan out of Waystar, he could be considered a low-key villain on Succession.

Though his heel-turn to Logan in the second season finale was certainly surprising, even his brutal prank on Shiv during her first speech as the company’s president demonstrated how he is willing to go to unexpected places if that means reaching his goal. In publicly humiliating Shiv, Kendall revealed that he was fully willing to betray his siblings right alongside his father in the fight for Waystar.
