As part of DC FanDome, The Suicide Squad remixes King Shark’s “nom noms” into his very own music video. The Suicide Squad saw oddball newcomers Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Ratcatcher 2, Polka-Dot Man, and Nanaue Aka King Shark (voiced by Sylvester Stallone) join Rick Flag and Harley Quinn on Task Force X. Taking a cue from Guardians of the Galaxy’s Rocket and Groot, writer/director James Gunn’s latest anthropomorphic character, King Shark, has proven himself another fan-favorite.

While previous depictions of King Shark see him be a transformed marine biologist, The Suicide Squad’s iteration is a dimwitted descendant of an ancient shark god struggling with an insatiable hunger for “nom noms.” Thanks to Cleo Cazo/Ratcatcher 2, King Shark learns to distinguish friend from food, which leads to the fake-mustache-wearing great white becoming one of Task Force X’s most endearing and hilarious characters. Gunn has said that King Shark, Ratcatcher 2, and Polka-Dot Man were not only his favorite characters to write but the essential heart of The Suicide Squad, a movie about misunderstood outcasts helping one another find purpose.

Warner Bros. recently dropped a music video featuring King Shark during DC FanDome. The “King Shark Nom Nom Music Video” sees Flula Borg (who played Javelin in The Suicide Squad) texting King Shark, who swears he won’t eat Javelin because he’s a “vedgertarinarian.” Flula then does a quick google search on King Shark, which leads him to the aforementioned video. DC FanDome offered a look at some of DC’s most anticipated projects, including Black Adam, The Flash, The Batman, and Peacemaker, Gunn’s The Suicide Squad spin-off series, which is set to premiere Thursday, January 13 on HBO Max. At the end of The Suicide Squad, John Cena’s Peacemaker was seemingly killed by Bloodsport. However, the film’s credits scene revealed Peacemaker alive in the hospital and will now work with Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), and John Economos (Steve Agee, who was also the stand-in for King Shark in The Suicide Squad) to “save the f—ing world.” The series is expected to be the first of many post-The Suicide Squad projects for Gunn.

Following Task Force X’s defeat of Starro the Conqueror in The Suicide Squad, Bloodsport, King Shark, Ratcatcher 2, and Harley Quinn leave the island of Corto Maltese. It remains to be seen if any of these characters (or Weasel) will appear in any forthcoming DC film/shows. Regardless, King Shark’s music video was a fun surprise during a jam-packed glimpse at the future of the DC Extended Universe. That being said, the inevitable and enduring popularity of the “King Shark Nom Nom Music Video” will certainly bode well for the future of one child-like yet extremely dangerous fish.
