Suicide Squad Scott Eastwood Would Love To Return For Sequel

Though Suicide Squad proved to be just as polarizing as its DC Extended Universe predecessors from a critical perspective, the film did end up as one of the few bright spots at an otherwise dour summer box office. To date, the film has brought in $300.8 million domestically and a strong $678.9 million globally. While it hasn’t officially been confirmed by Warner Bros., it’s all but guaranteed that a Suicide Squad 2 will be coming through the pipeline soon.

As the followup makes its way through development, there will be much interest in its cast. Obviously, headliners such as Will Smith and Margot Robbie should be returning, but the first Suicide Squad featured several big name talents in a variety of roles. One such actor was Scott Eastwood, who would happily return for a sequel if asked by the studio.

Screen Rant interviewed Eastwood, who played the soldier GQ, during the Snowden press junket, where he was asked about his potential involvement in Suicide Squad 2. Even though his character seemed to have died on-screen, Eastwood was enthusiastic about coming back. After saying “anything is possible” in regards to GQ’s fate, the thespian went on to praise director David Ayer:

“Oh, yeah, of course. Working with David Ayer…the guy is a great filmmaker.”

From the beginning, it was clear that the cast of Suicide Squad genuinely loved working with each other and developed a nice chemistry. Ayer spent part of pre-production challenging his actors by forcing them to open up with one another, and the efforts seemed to have paid off. One of the more praised aspects of the movie was the performances, and fans walked away eager to see more from the characters. By all accounts, Suicide Squad was a blast to make, so it isn’t any surprise that Eastwood would be interested in reprising his role.

As for how that would come to be is open for discussion. In the world of comic book movies, people rarely stay dead, even when it seems impossible that they can still be alive. It’s true that GQ was a mere mortal human (and had no superpowers that the audience knows of), but that doesn’t truly mean anything. Marvel’s Phil Coulson was just a regular guy who was stabbed by Loki and later came back. It depends on what Ayer and the rest of the creative team have in mind, but they could surely figure out a way for GQ to be part of the team again if they wanted Eastwood in the film.

But for the time being, this is all hypothetical. WB still has plenty of their DCEU slate to work through (including currently undated solo vehicles for The Flash, Batman, and Superman), so it remains to be seen when they’ll give Suicide Squad 2 the go-ahead. Ayer said over the summer that the possibilities for sequels and spinoffs are “infinite,” but the studio is going to have final say on that matter. Fans just have to wait for the Skwad’s return.

Suicide Squad is now playing in theaters. Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; an untitled DC Film on October 5, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; an untitled DC film on November 1, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman solo movie, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
