Suicide Squads Starro Has Nothing On Jarro (Batmans Starfish Son)

With Starro recently being brought to the big screen in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, it’s important to remember one of the villain’s best offsprings, Jarro. The pint-sized heroic version of Starro is both adorable and powerful. He considers himself to be Batman’s son and also one of the greatest Robin’s ever. Most importantly, Jarro helped Batman save the Multiverse from being annihilated during the events of Death Metal.

Starro the Conqueror first appeared in the Justice League’s first adventure back in Brave and the Bold #28. The alien creature is one of the most dangerous villains in the DC Universe, as he can create miniature versions of himself that attach themselves to people’s faces and control the host’s mind. On top of being a giant, super-strong alien starfish, versions of Starro have also had a healing factor and can shoot and absorb energy blasts. So, when Starro died in Justice League: No Justice, Batman decided to use one of its spores to bring it back to life – which is where Jarro was born.

Jarro is a tiny version of Starro, who was created after the original villain sacrificed himself to save the Justice League. Jarro immediately became a trusted ally to the Justice League, as he tried to use his mental powers to prevent them from harm and developed a relationship with Batman, even referring to him as his dad. Jarro even dreamed of being the greatest Robin ever – and achieved that goal when he helped the Justice League ambush the Legion of Doom.

However, after having visions about the dark future, Jarro turned into a bigger creature in an attempt to stop it from happening. But, Batman managed to calm him down and help him revert to his smaller self, even offering him a much-needed hug.

Jarro returned in the Dark Nights: Death Metal event, where he reconnected with his dad, Batman. As the most powerful psychic being in the universe, the team recruited him to psychically block the team from detection as they attempted to get the energy needed to restart the multiverse. Jarro’s help would be instrumental in helping defeat the Batman Who Laughs.

Jarro proved that not only is he cute and one of the greatest Robin’s ever (his words), but that he was also an extremely powerful alien creature like Starro. However, instead of using his psychic powers for evil, Jarro aided the Justice League and became one of its greatest heroes when the team needed him most. Jarro is a legend whose bond with Batman showed a rare gentle side to the Dark Knight. Hopefully, one day, Jarro returns to the DC Universe.
