For starters, Sora is one of the lightest characters in the game. Players will immediately notice how floaty he is upon jumping. In most contexts, this is a disadvantage since Sora can die incredibly early with a strong enough attack. Sora is a character that builds up his damage by doing combos. He’s incredibly basic to pick up when compared to other fighters from the same pass like Tekken’s Kazuya Mishima.

Tips and Tricks For Sora in Super Smash Bros Ultimate

• Proper Use of Firaga: Since Sora’s magic automatically alternates after the player uses it, the best thing to do would be to use Firaga to keep enemies away. If the player is in the lead, they can use this to draw in their opponents to punish them. This also works to keep enemies off stage. Avoid using this on characters that can reflect or absorb projectiles like Fox or Ness.
• Sora’s Recovery: As a benefit to how light Sora is in this game, he has one of the best recoveries available. This is one of the things that makes Sora different from other sword fighters. If players press Up-B and then immediately transition into Sonic Blade (Side-B), players can aim to return back to the stage. There will be three different dashes that can lock on to enemies or be used as a method of recovering. Try to grab the ledge when coming back. Landing on the stage will make the player vulnerable.
• Proper Use of Thundaga: This is one of Sora’s strongest spells. Although, using it on stage can be incredibly dangerous since there are tons of ending lag (the time of which the player can input again after the animation ends). The best thing to do would be to use this spell when an opponent is off stage. It’s likely it will hit them when they are out in the open.
• Avoid Sonic Blade On Stage: While Sonic Blade is one of the reasons why Sora is a great Final DLC fighter, this move is becoming easier to read as players have more time to experiment with Sora. If the player uses Sonic Blade on stage and the opponent blocks, they can get punished. Sonic Blade has tons of ending lag, leaving the player wide open. Only use this move in the air or as a method of recovery. Doing it on stage can get dangerous.
• Proper Use of Blizzaga: This one is the most difficult to utilize but can be incredibly effective. The freeze magic effective lasts longer depending on the player’s damage. The higher the damage, the longer they will remain on the ice. In certain situations, this may cause the player to fall off the stage. Although, the most optimal thing to do would be to try and time how long until the opponent thaws out. Using Up-B at the proper time will cause them to break out and kill them if their damage is high enough. It’s tough to time, but very rewarding.

• Neutral Air: This is where Sora is in the air and attacks without any directional input from the player. In this case, Sora swings the Keyblade three times. This can easily combo into other moves or throw off enemies if they are hit by hit. It also has a wider range of attacks when compared to Sora’s Forward-Air. Use this move to approach foes.
• Go Off-Stage: Sora has the potential to kill an opponent using his Forward-Air from the edge of the screen. Don’t be afraid to go out there and use this. This is one of the best abilities in Sora’s moveset. Go off stage, use Forward-Air to attack, and use Sonic Blade to safely return back.
• Up-Smash: This move is only good if the player is directly above Sora. It has the potential to scoop if a player if they are standing directly in front of them but otherwise, it typically misses or the opponent falls out of it. Use this move if the opponent is on a platform above Sora to send the towards the blast zone.
• Down-Tilt: This is the input where players hold down and attack with the A button. With Sora, it can scoop up enemies directly above him. He has tons of different options in this position. He can Up-Smash to potentially kill. He can also Up-Tilt for more damage. Regardless, this is a great combo starter.
• Don’t Rely on Down-Air: This is the downward spiral move Sora does when he is in the air. This is similar to Kirby’s move where he transforms into a block. Constantly spamming this move will leave the player wide open. Make sure to use this only in small doses. Using it too much will show weakness in the player’s defense.
• Up-B Kills: Sora’s main recovery move can also kill most of the cast at decent percents. If an opponent is well over 110%-120%, a proper Up-B can kill them in a second. This also works if the opponent is really high up. Players can take the risk and kill them from the top or run away with Sonic Blade if things get too unsafe. Overall, this is one of Sora’s best kill options.

Overall, the best way to improve with Sora is to continue playing the character. Players can do this by playing Kingdom Hearts games first to feel out his combos. Practice and time, along with studying how other players play them, is a great way to improve technique.
