Supergirl: Harley Quinn Smith to Guest Star in Kevin Smith’s Episode

Harley Quinn Smith, daughter of filmmaker Kevin Smith, guest-stars in her dad’s upcoming Supergirl season 2 episode, ‘Supergirl Lives’.

The DC TV Universe is one that’s constantly expanding and introducing new faces into the fold, drawing from its rich backlog of DC comic book haracters and storylines. Whether it’s a guest appearance from former WWE wrestler Cody Rhodes on Arrow, Grey Damon as Mirror Master on The Flash or someone else within the universe entirely, there’s always a unique subject right around the corner to entice and entertain audiences.

Now it seems viewers are in for yet another guest star within the universe, this time with Supergirl being the recipient. Harley Quinn Smith revealed via her Instagram account that she would be stepping onto the series during her father’s (Kevin Smith) upcoming episode, ‘Supergirl Lives’.

The director’s daughter announced the news on the social media website (see below), posting a picture of her script copy, along with the caption: ‘National City here I come!’ However, just four episodes into the new second season (and with ‘Supergirl Lives’ slated to air as episode 9), details surrounding Smith’s character and the plot that we will see her involved in are still being kept tightly under wraps.

Though Harley hasn’t in the past been involved in any fictional superhero television shows or movies, she was named at birth after the DC Comics fictional character of the same name, growing up in the midst of a family obsessed by the comic book world. In 2014, she appeared on American reality television series Comic Book Men, which aired on the AMC network and was set at Kevin Smith’s comic book show, Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash.

Smith will be bringing some major action to his Supergirl season 2 episode, but also certainly some of his trademark heart and humor – and what better way for him to inject more of that into the series, than with an appearance by his own daughter? That being said, fans could be sceptical about Harley’s inclusion in the show, concerned that she will play too large a role in the episode (since her father is directing and all that) and distract from the ongoing narrative developments in the show’s second season.

That being said, Smith’s longtime collaborator/friend, Jason Mewes (aka the Jay to Smith’s Silent Bob), made a short-and-sweet cameo in Smith’s The Flash season 2 episode, ‘The Runaway Dinosaur’. Odds are, that’s all Harley Quinn Smith will be doing: a similarly small role during ‘Supergirl Lives’, meant as a fun “Easter Egg” for Smith’s fanbase.

Supergirl continues Monday, November 7 with ‘Crossfire’ at 8pm on The CW.
