Superhot Mind Control Deletes New Melee Weapons & Throwables

Superhot: Mind Control Delete has more than just new levels. There are multiple new melee weapons added to the expanded version of Superhot, the time-stop indie game which originally released four years ago, and the updates are dazzling. Items around the map can now be turned into weapons, such as a bat, pipe, crowbar, and even darts and playing cards. There are also throwable items that can be instant kills. All of these adds to the complexity of the Superhot puzzle of dismantling enemies in stop-motion.

Superhot’s calling card, its manipulation of time, was kept mainly similar in the new release. The fun of the game is to have to identify enemies and extrapolate upon which future moves they may make. Players are forced to consider whether to shoot or dodge, or to go for one of the melee weapons. Without a weapon, it takes three melee attacks to down the red enemies. However, with a bat or pipe, melee is an instant kill. Throwables like shurikens, katanas, and knives are also a one-hit kill. There’s even a hack to turn them into grenades.

The new bat melee weapon in Superhot: Mind Control Delete isn’t as good as its sharp cousin, the katana. The katana was the most powerful melee weapon in the original game, and continues to be so in Superhot: MCD. It’s a one-hit kill for both melee attacks and throws, and can be used to deflect enemy bullets. The newly-released bat, sadly, can not be used this way. Eventually players will have to throw it, as it is breakable.

Other New Weapons Superhot MCD Has

The new bat can also be used to deflect other breakable thrown items. The pipe in Superhot: Mind Control Delete is similar to the bat. The other two new melee weapons, the crowbar and the wooden stick with nails, cannot be used to block breakable throwables or bullets.

The original Superhot had throwable items, but Mind Control Delete split the throwables into three categories. Shurikens are one-hit kill items that can be thrown at an enemy anywhere in the body, except for the few enemies that have concrete or white parts. The other category, darts, can also instakill, but only with a head shot. Without a head shot, players will need to stick an enemy twice. Dart-types and shuriken-type weapons will both stick into an enemy. The last type of throwables are breakable. There’s over 100 breakable things to throw in Superhot: Mind Control Delete (yes, including vases). Players can also throw the aforementioned knives and katanas, which are instant kills no matter where they hit.

Mind Control Delete offers lots of new ways for players to take down the enemy, especially with the new melee weapons and throwables. Combined with the .core and .hack mechanics, there are endless options to complete the levels. Even the shotgun can be used as a melee weapon after running out of bullets. All these new weapons are just part of the puzzle, and while it’s a violent puzzle, Superhot: Mind Control Delete is still a fun one to solve.
