For fifteen seasons, Supernatural gave fans such rich entertainment and some wonderful episodes of TV with its beloved characters, however, the show was never afraid to break the hearts of its passionate fans. A lot of this heartbreak comes from its characters, including Sam Winchester, who has a plethora of lines over the show’s fifteen years that bring tears to the eyes of fans.

When He Tries To Make Dean Believe Again

When Dean decided that, in order to stop Michael from escaping his mind, possessing his body, and unleashing havoc on the world, he would lock himself in a Mal’ak box, it severely hurt Sam, who did not want to lose his brother for one and was hurt that he had given up.

In “Prophet and Loss,” Sam’s emotions finally get the better of him, and he unloads on Dean. After punching him in the face, he lambasts him for giving up and breaks down, asking Dean why he cannot believe in the brothers. It is well done and even hard to watch, but thankfully resulted in Dean not going into the Mal’ak box.

Sam proceeds to call himself a freak but also states that he wants to do good, highlighting both the deep-seated issues with the character’s confidence and the genuine desire he has to do good.

Giving in and allowing Dean to do what he feels is right – in this instance, kill Sam and be sent far away where he and the Mark of Cain cannot hurt anyone – Sam gets ready to die. When He Took Control Of Lucifer

“Swan Song” is considered by many Supernatural fans to be the best the show has to offer, and there is no doubt it is an emotional rollercoaster filled with a lot of anguish for audiences.

This is especially true for the climax and the final conversation between Sam and Dean. Sam getting a hold of Lucifer and giving these last words to Dean before jumping into the pit is a sequence that will always give fans a lump in their throat.

“Sacrifice” is undoubtedly one of Supernatural’s best season finale’s, with one of its best aspects being the classic brotherly scene between Dean and Sam at the end.

Even more heartbreaking than Sam’s “So?” is his reasoning for being so willing to die and his confession about what he admitted during his confession. Believing he was nothing but a failure who let people down was so shocking and painful to hear. Sam did make mistakes, but it was always with the best intentions and deep down Sam was a hero, far more than he was a villain of any description. He did not deserve to hold such self-hatred.

When He Says His Final Goodbye To Dean

“It’s okay. You Can Go Now.”

“Carry On” may be littered with issues that will forever divide and annoy the Supernatural fandom, but there is no doubt it pulls on the heartstrings and is perhaps the show’s most emotional episode. Not least of all because of Sam and Dean’s final goodbyes.

Every line spoken between the brothers is emotional and powerful. But on Sam’s side, those final two lines to his brother where he gives him permission to go, to be at peace, they are hard to get through without the waterworks coming on. Dean deserved better, but that does not make their goodbye any less powerful.
