Supernatural 10 Ways Ruby Got Worse and Worse

In the Supernatural fandom, Ruby is an iconic character, but not because she’s one of the good guys. She makes herself out to be in the beginning, using her good choice in beautiful vessels and cunning nature to seduce the Winchester brothers into believing that all she wants to do is help.

Ruby’s intelligence is her greatest weapon and she uses it to manipulate her way to her real main goal. In truth, she was Lucifer’s greatest servant and Lilith’s biggest helper. She was a catalyst in a much bigger part of the story and later on it turns out that her knowledge and schemes hid a key element to humanity’s survival.

10 Possession Without Permission

This is fairly normal demon practice on the show but Ruby is trying to make herself out as somebody who’s trying to help, as someone who can be trusted. Yet she still hijacked someone’s body, put it through the ringer, and eventually killed that person with the damage she did.

Sam and Dean bring that up and she brushes it off like it’s nothing, like her mission means more than one person’s body. Fans do find out that this is what she believes but, again, for someone trying to play herself off as a person trying to do good, this is a strange mentality to have.

9 She’s a Huge Tease About Dean’s Demon Deal

Supernatural 10 Ways Ruby Got Worse and Worse

The main attraction to Ruby for Sam is that she tells him there’s a way out of Dean’s demon deal. At the end of Season 3, Dean makes a deal to bring Sam back to life after Jacob (one of Azazel’s special children) stabs and kills him. The crossroads demon doesn’t give Dean ten years same as with most demon deals.

Instead, Dean only gets a year. When Sam finds this out and Ruby comes along acting like she can change things, it’s a huge incentive for Sam. But she can’t really do anything to save Dean from the pit and she knows it.

8 She’s Righteous About Her Body Count

When Ruby kills, she treats it like a casualty of war. Her cause is all that matters and she has no qualms about stabbing her enchanted knife into anyone possessed by a demon out to thwart her plans.

Sam and Dean are quick to kill demons too but at least they feel bad about it. Ruby has no other care but her own mission and if a slew of people have to die in her wake, then so be it.

7 The Desperate Need To Be Appreciated

After Ruby gets on the scene and has saved the Winchesters’ from death a few times, her snark turns from comedy to serious insecurity. She doesn’t just want to be liked, she wants to be appreciated and recognized for what she’s done.

It’s a part of her personality that eventually is her downfall, even with the monologue declaring her awesomeness just before her own knife is plunged into her. Ruby wants appreciation from Lilith, from Lucifer, and even from the Winchesters. It is ingrained in her being, and it drives her to ruin.

6 The Seduction Of Sam In His Grief

Supernatural 10 Ways Ruby Got Worse and Worse

Dean goes to hell at the end of Season 3 and Sam’s grief manifests as his deep hatred for Lilith. He wants revenge and Ruby shows up ready to grant his wish.

From their past escapades, Ruby knew that Sam wasn’t happy with killing people with the knife in order to get rid of demons. He also wanted to make sure Lilith was dead when he found her. Ruby enticed him with a power that could do this, that could save people possessed by demons, that could kill Lilith and other demons without sacrificing their hosts. She seduced him with this power and took advantage of his grief.

5 Convinced Sam He Was Doing Good

Ruby’s manipulation skills were paramount to Chuck’s in many ways. One of them was in convincing Sam that he was doing good by pulling demons without killing their hosts. By doing so, she also allowed Lilith the time she needed to break 65 seals before Sam killed her as the 66th.

Ruby led Sam on to believe that he was doing good, going so far as to capture, keep, and feed off of nurse Cindy’s blood even after the demon inside her let the host come back out. He let Ruby “put her out of her misery” when he was done with her. The mission of revenge on Lilith and doing something good brainwashed Sam into a myopic vision all meant to further Ruby’s own plan.

4 Consistently Interfered In Sam And Dean’s Relationship

Supernatural 10 Ways Ruby Got Worse and Worse

Ruby shows up crashing into Sam and Dean’s lives with a lot of promises and a few good hex bags. When Dean finds out she can’t get him out of his deal, that’s the first way she interferes.

Then, after Dean comes back from the dead, she insists on keeping her relationship with Sam a secret from the moment Dean finds them in the hotel room. The secrets and lies get in the way of their brotherhood several times and, by Ruby’s insistence to continue even after Sam tells her about the upset, it’s clear that she knows she’s causing a rift but doesn’t care at all.

3 Encouraged And Supported Sam’s Blood Addiction

When Ruby knew that Sam’s power could help her achieve her ultimate goal, she did everything she could to hone that power for herself. She offered Sam her blood, taught him how to use his powers, and all under the guise of doing good for people who are possessed and so Sam could get his revenge on Lilith.

She manipulated Sam’s addiction by leaving for weeks at a time and making sure that he needed her even when Dean was pulled out of Hell. It was her tether to him.

2 The Monologue When Sam Breaks The Last Seal

Supernatural 10 Ways Ruby Got Worse and Worse

”I was the best of those sons of b*tches! The most loyal!” Ruby screams out when Sam finally kills Lilith and breaks the last seal. It was her finale as well as the finale for Season 4. She was devoted to Lucifer all along and this last arrogant monologue of hers proves that she was the baddest b*tch of them all…until Dean stabs her at the utterance of her last words.

The fan consensus is that the speech is memorable and a big part of what makes Ruby iconic, it is also part of what makes her the worst.

1 Ruby’s Postmortem Annoyance From The Empty

Supernatural 10 Ways Ruby Got Worse and Worse

More than ten years after her death, the Winchesters need Ruby’s help with the Occultum. In Season 15, it is revealed that Ruby took the details of this item with her to her death. Castiel ventures to The Empty to find out how to get it. Her manipulation continues when she ultimately sends the gang to a church guarded by hell hounds. Even in death, Ruby’s character is vindictive and out for herself.
