Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

Supernatural has been around for a decade and a half, which means it’s bound to have a number of main villains to its name. The show’s format is such that even the main heroes have taken their turns at playing the role of the antagonist at some point.

Over the course of the seasons, we’ve had some highly powerful beings take this role, and this list is based on the power level of these antagonists rather than their likability or fanbase. This means your most loved villain might just be at the bottom and vice versa. We’ve also listed strictly those characters who antagonized the heroes in a major way throughout the seasons.

Here is Every Main Supernatural Villain, Ranked

14 Soulless Sam

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

Soulless Sam was the apex human; he had superior strength, endurance, killer instinct, no need for sleep, and no reservations about getting the job done, no matter the cost. Still, let’s not forget he was a human, only without a soul.

He was handily beaten down by Dean in one episode and was bound just like any other human would be. He was the antagonist for the first half of Season 6 and only went away in the finale.

13 Crowley

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

Crowley was the main antagonist of Season 6 and Season 8, but he ranks at the bottom because he’s quite clearly the weakest of supernatural villains. He has higher-tier demon powers, which are effective against low-rankers and human beings.

But Crowley always got pulverized when matched up with superior beings and lost to every villain mentioned in this list when he matched up with them. He was also susceptible to damage by common killing methods like the Demon knife.

12 Abaddon

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

Abaddon terrorized Season 9 along with Metatron, although they never joined forces, and brought back the horror aspect of a Supernatural villain. She was without remorse; tearing down her victims with extreme malice which she reveled in.

In all of her appearances where she killed beings, Abaddon was merciless and would leave a bloodied pile of bodies behind. Being a Knight of Hell meant she was stronger than most angels and almost every demon there was.

11 Demon Dean

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

Demon Dean became the strongest demon ever alive at the time due to the Mark of Cain on his arm housing the Darkness. He never displayed his full abilities but was shown to be so powerful that every demon and angel cowered in fright.

Demon Dean would remain under the surface for the majority of Season 10 as he threatened to return with the Mark of Cain growing stronger. All of Season 10 was spent trying to keep him at bay.

10 Rowena

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

Rowena is said to be the most powerful witch ever to have lived in the Supernatural universe. She was the main antagonist of Season 10 and in her first couple appearances alone she flashed such magic that left angels, demons, and monsters clueless in her wake.

Rowena’s magic is such that the Darkness herself came to her to be healed, as well as God. Her weakness, though, is that she can be killed and restrained like any other human.

9 Azazel

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

On paper, Azazel shouldn’t be so high up, but based on his feats he thoroughly deserves it. As we saw later, Princes of Hell were the strongest demons ever and Azazel was their leader. He could control weather, dreamwalk, and do just about anything, which is unprecedented for a demon.

His weakness leave him further down the list, though, as anyone with the Colt could potentially kill him, and this is how he ended up going out. But he did have powers to smite just about anything.

8 Lilith

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

The only demon of her kind, Lilith was also the very first demon and thus was the strongest. She only died because she allowed for it to happen and we still don’t know what her true weaknesses were. She was the main antagonist for Seasons 3 and 4, with Lilith being truly scary in her few appearances.

She had tenfold the powers of demons we saw before and enjoyed killing as a recreational sport; no demon could come near her.

7 Castiel

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

Castiel was the true antagonist of Season 6 and his Godlike powers, after absorbing the souls of purgatory, made him supremely powerful. We haven’t placed him higher because he didn’t have it in him to hold all these souls for too long… and of course, because he’s spent most of his time on the show as a hero!

When he did hold them, Castiel was God-tier and only took a snap to make anything happen. Without those powers, too, Castiel was an extremely powerful Seraph in Season 6 who made things a piece of cake for the Winchesters.

6 Dick Roman

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

Dick Roman had a magnified version of the powers we saw from the other Leviathans, and while he couldn’t warp reality, it is a known fact he could dispose of angels in the blink of an eye.

This places Dick above all non-archangels, although it’s likely he could even beat them. Dick was other kinds of resourceful; he became a billionaire as soon as he left purgatory. He was the only Leviathan not susceptible to Borax and is still alive in purgatory.

5 Raphael

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

The third antagonist of Season 6, Raphael was an archangel and thus was one of the most powerful ever beings in existence. He had no problems beating a hugely powerful Seraph like Castiel and wasn’t killed by a 50k-soul-powered Castiel either.

He was a reality warper too and had just about any powers you could think of. Raphael, ultimately, wasn’t stronger than his older brothers though, and was blown to smithereens by God!

4 Metatron

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

The other antagonist of Season 9, Metatron also reached God status when he used the powers of the angel tablet to make himself the most powerful being in the universe at the time. He had no weaknesses at the time, other than these powers being drained when the tablet was destroyed.

He mopped the floor with a Mark-of-Cain-powered-Dean, and only lost because the tablet was taken away. Other than that, he was undefeatable.

3 Lucifer

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

Lucifer/Nick launches the top 3. The most recent version of Lucifer was more powerful than his original elder brother Michael, who was said to be the most powerful being other than God.

The archangel blade was the only known weapon to harm him, and Lucifer can’t be killed otherwise. He’s like a child in a playpen as he snaps his fingers and does whatever the heck he wants.

2 Alternate Michael

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

This Michael with his true vessel is nigh-unstoppable. We still don’t know any way he can be killed, and he’s likely to be free from Dean’s mind soon. He achieved his mission of destroying his homeworld as that universe was permanently fractured.

Alternate Michael also killed all his archangel brothers and is an expert strategist; he has his own army waiting for him. If he gets free rein, he might just destroy the main universe as well.

1 The Darkness

Supernatural Every Main Villain Ranked

Finally, we have the being who can never be killed. The Darkness is more powerful than God and Death, and is the true force of the universe. In the end, she wasn’t beaten as she had to be convinced to heal God, whom she had mortally wounded, and the Darkness chose to become good.

Nothing can destroy her. She spent Season 11 lying in wait to end the universe and would have had it not been for Dean convincing her to forgive God.
