Apple TV+ boasts some great original series including Ted Lasso. It was renewed for a sophomore season and so were these other shows.

Apple’s streaming service Apple TV+ launched a little over a year ago on November 1, 2019. With many yearly subscriptions expiring, fans are wondering which shows have been renewed in order to justice their continued subscription. Hailee Steinfeld’s Dickinson premiered its second season on January 8, 2021, and the psychological-horror series Servant will premiered its season 2 on January 15, 2021, and is already renewed for a third season.

Even more exciting is Apple TV+’s big breakout comedy Ted Lasso, which is rumored by Variety to be nominated at the 2021 Golden Globes, is already greenlit for two more seasons even before season two filming has begun. In addition to Ted Lasso, there are some other Apple TV+ series that have been renewed for a second season and might make re-upping a subscription worth the $4.99 per month price point.

10 For All Mankind

The underrated For All Mankind is a sci-fi alternate history series that depicts a world where the global space race never ended and instead the Soviet Union was the first to land on the Moon. The series stars Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, Suicide Squad) in the lead role as fictional NASA astronaut Edward Baldwin.

The series also features real historical figures Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and President Richard Nixon. The 10 episode season is set to premiere its second season on February 19, 2021, and is already renewed for a third season.

9 The Morning Show

Apple TV+’s big breakout series The Morning Show stars Jennnifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carell, all of whom were nominated for a Golden Globe for their performance. The show dives into the complicated lives of a news anchor duo as their worlds are turned upside down due to a sexual misconduct scandal and internal competition.

Production on the second season started before the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed on October 19, 2020. The follow-up season is set to premiere in 2021 and includes new characters including a recurring role for Hasan Minaj.

8 See

See is a science fiction series that stars Jason Momoa (Aquaman, Game of Thrones) and Alfre Woodard (12 Years a Slave, Luke Cage). It takes place in a dystopian future where humanity has lost the sense of sight and society is forced to adapt.

The show’s critical response is split with critics skewing negative and fans scoring high. However, Apple TV+ did greenlight the series for a second season but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, filming of See has been delayed.

7 Truth Be Told

Based on the Kathleen Barber novel, Are You Sleeping?, Truth Be Told, is a legal drama that follows Poppy Parnell (Octavia Spencer), a true-crime podcaster who investigates the case of a convicted killer, Warren Cave (Aaron Paul).

The 2020 NAACP Image Awards nominated Octavia Spencer for her role and awarded writer Nichelle Tramble Spellman. The 8-episode series has already begun filming its second season in Los Angeles, California which began on October 26, 2020.

6 Home Before Dark

Home Before Dark is a mystery-drama series that follows Hilde Lysiak, a young girl who unearths a cold case in her journalistic pursuits. The series stars Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project) as Hilde Lysiak and Jim Sturgess (21, Across the Universe) as her father.

While many of Apple TV+ originals are released on a weekly basis, Home Before Dark allowed viewers to dive deep into the series by releasing all 10 episodes at once. The series was renewed for a second season even before the first season had aired.

5 Little America

Little America is an anthology series that tells the life of immigrants in America with each episode focused on a different person and their story.

The series was based on the true stories collected in Epic Magazine by the same name. Like many series on this list, Little America was renewed for a second season prior to its premiere.

4 Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet was created by Rob McElhenney, Megan Ganz, and Charlie Day who were all behind the successful FX comedy, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The series centers on a video game studio that develops a popular video game called “Mythic Quest.”

The first season focuses on their release of a major expansion to the game called Raven’s Banquet. While the show hasn’t started filming its second season, it has been renewed and even aired a special episode on May 22, 2020, titled Mythic Quest: Quarantine.

3 Trying

Trying is a British comedy series that follows a couple who face challenges with the adoption process after struggling to conceive a child. The series is co-produced by Apple TV and BBC and has already been renewed for a second season.

The main stars Rafe Spall (The Big Short) and Ester Smith (Cuckoo) reunited in the series after co-starring in the Black Mirror episode titled “White Christmas.”

2 Central Park

The adult animated sitcom was originally developed for Fox by Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard but after passing on the show, Apple TV+ outbid Netflix and Hulu for the series. The musical series stars several voices from Hamilton’s original cast including Daveed Diggs and Leslie Odom Jr. as well as songs by popular artists Sara Bareilles, Fiona Apple, and Cyndi Lauper.

The series revolves around a family who works to save New York City’s Central Park from a greedy property developer. The series was renewed for a second season but it was also announced that Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, Frozen) who voiced the bi-racial character Molly Tillerman will be replaced by Emmy Raver-Lampman (The Umbrella Academy) who also starred in Hamilton.

1 Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso is a comedy series for Apple TV+ based on the character that Jason Sudeikis played for a series of promos for NBC Sports back in 2013 and 2014. The series follows the American football coach Ted Lasso as he travels to England to become the coach of the English Premier League team, AFC Richmond.

The show was called “one of the most kindhearted shows to premiere in quite some time, and that coupled with a classic underdog sports tale makes it a deeply endearing experience” by Liz Shannon Miller (Collider). Its success has inspired Apple TV+ to renew the series for two more series allowing fans to hopefully see Sudeikis’ lovable Ted Lasso coach his team to a Premier League championship.
