While many fans are well aware that Teen Wolf was inspired by the 1985 movie of the same name starring Michael J. Fox, not everyone knows every single detail that went into the making of the show. The show’s most dedicated followers may want to know everything that went on behind the camera as well as in front of it.

Tyler Posey’s Tattoo Was Written Into The Show

Tyler Posey is a tattoo enthusiast and while most of his ink was hidden with make-up throughout the course of Teen Wolf, one particular tattoo had to be included in the show because it was too hard to cover up.

As reported by MTV, the two black bands on Posey’s forearm were written into the story and given special significance. Indeed, the possibility of a tattoo on Scott’s body had to be explained as werewolves’ skin heals and should not be able to tolerate a tattoo.

Evan Peters Could Have Played Stiles

Speaking to E! Online, showrunner Jeff Davis spilled some secrets about the casting of Teen Wolf. It turns out that Evan Peters auditioned for the role of Stiles. But instead of becoming Scott McCall’s best friend, Peters went on to become a huge part of American Horror Story.

He isn’t the only actor who could have been in Teen Wolf as Davis also revealed that To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before star Noah Centineo also auditioned several times in hopes to get a part in the show.

JR Bourne Auditioned For The Role Of Deaton

It is hard to imagine JR Bourne playing anybody else than Chris Argent on Teen Wolf, but it turns out this part isn’t the one he actually auditioned for. Indeed, as Jeff Davis told E! Online, Bourne came to the audition to read for the part of Dr. Alan Deaton.

Bourne was almost hired for the role before Davis reconsidered and realized that the actor was a better fit to play Allison’s father.

There’s A Web Series Linked To The Show

There was a series of webisodes titled Search for a Cure released online between Teen Wolf’s seasons one and two. The webisodes, written and directed by showrunner Jeff Davis, followed best friends Scott and Stiles as they searched for a doctor who might be able to cure Scott from being a werewolf.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the web series featured the character of Dr. Conrad Fenris, who was actually portrayed by non-other than Tyler Posey’s father, John Posey.

Dylan O’Brien Owns Stiles’ Jeep

Stiles’ Jeep was almost as much a character on Teen Wolf as he was, and it is actually heartwarming to learn that Dylan O’Brien kept it. While on the show Stiles left his beloved vehicle with Scott, in real life they keys to the Jeep were left with Dylan O’Brien.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, O’Brien revealed during the show’s MTV Reunion: “Everyone who knows me closely knows that my heart lives and dies with Teen Wolf. There was no way I was not taking that Jeep.”

Jeff Davis Wanted To Do A Spinoff About Kira

Arden Cho, who played Kira Yukimura on Teen Wolf, left the show at the end of the fifth season and didn’t not return, despite her character being left off on a cliffhanger. The show’s creator, Jeff Davis, later revealed that he had wanted to do a spinoff around Kira to tie up those loose ends.

This Kira-focused spinoff did not happen but Arden Cho has expressed her willingness to get back into Kira’s shoes if she was asked to during the Teen Wolf’s MTV Reunion Special.

Crystal Reed Asked To Leave The Show

Fans were shocked when Allison Argent was killed in the third season, leaving them asking why Allison’s character was removed from Teen Wolf. It turns out that this decision came from none other that Crystal Reed herself.

The actor asked the show’s creator Jeff Davis if she could leave the series because she wanted to pursue other creative opportunities and no longer wanted to play a character that was a teenager, 12 years younger than she actually was herself.

The Banshee Screams Were Fake

Holland Roden’s character, Lydia Martin, turned out to be a banshee in Teen Wolf. While the actor did scream on several occasions on the show, the banshee scream were fake. TV Guide reported that by the show’s fifth season, Roden had been faking the screams for a while as the production had a lot of banked screams that they could just use instead.

In the same vein, it was revealed that a lot of the actors who played werewolves had also stopped growling in their scenes.

No One Knew Stiles’ First Name Except The Show’s Creator

Jeff Davis kept the secret of Stiles’ real first name on Teen Wolf under wrap for several years before allowing the cast and the world to find out what it was. He revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he “was looking for a Polish name that was incredibly difficult to both spell and pronounce,” and landed on Mieczyslaw.

Because the name sounds like “mischief,” Davis thought it was perfect for Stiles’ character. It wasn’t until the sixth and final season of Teen Wolf that Davis let out the secret of Stiles’ name.

It Took Two Hours To Turn Scott Into A Werewolf

According to BuzzFeed, transforming Tyler Posey into a werewolf took a lot longer in real like than the transformation viewers saw happen in the show. The makeup artists working on Posey needed two hours to complete the transition and had to apply several different kinds of prosthetics on the actor to give him his werewolf appearance.

One of those prosthetics called a “bandit mask” was made of silicone and thrown out at the end of each episodes, which helped make the make-up removal process a lot quicker. Therefore, Posey could turn back into a human in about half an hour.
