Given that the show takes place largely in a high school, it comes as no surprise that romance is a major aspect of Teen Wolf. Many of the relationships take mature turns and develop from crushes into adult love, and the couples form profound bonds due to extenuating circumstances.
Couples such as Stydia and Scallison have garnered large followings, with Stiles and Lydia taking six seasons to officially get together. Yet no matter how beloved a ship is, there will always be those who don’t feel the same. Fans have taken to Reddit to express their unpopular opinions about the Teen Wolf couples.
Scira Is One Of The Best Ships
There are several controversial couples in Teen Wolf, but Scott and Kira’s relationship is one that many viewers are neutral about. While Scira doesn’t have the same spark as Scallison, there’s nothing to particularly dislike about them.
Reddit user z_Reddittt claims to “hate Allison” and believes “Scira was one of the best and most adorable ships on the show.” Scott and Kira have plenty of cute moments, so this is understandable to an extent. However, saying they’re the best is an unpopular opinion because fans are much more invested in other romances.
Stydia Is Overrated
Stiles and Lydia are one of the most popular romances of their time, with the couple even being nominated for “best ship” at the 2016 MTV Fandom Awards. However, Reddit user BrookeHannah666 doesn’t understand the hype and believes that “Stydia is overrated.” They continue on to say their relationship is understandable from a writing point of view, but “the show just kind of chucked them together.”
The majority of viewers agree that there should have been more payoff, but this is hopefully something they’ll get in the Teen Wolf revival movie. While it would’ve been ideal to see Stiles and Lydia’s relationship, their journey is the best part. It’s difficult to view Stydia as “overrated” due to the six years fans spent patiently waiting for the ship to sail.
Scott Doesn’t Think Allison Can Hold Her Own
Scott and Allison break up at the end of Teen Wolf season 2, but it doesn’t stop viewers from hoping for their reconciliation. Reddit user tlee890 admits that a small part of them “thinks they could’ve found their way back to each other” but that “Scott did not see her as someone who could stand her own against a supernatural enemy.”
It’s hard to blame Scott for worrying about Allison, given the circumstances. Even as a werewolf with the ability to heal, Scott has looked death in the face more than once. Allison is at an extreme disadvantage as a human, and one wrong move can have fatal consequences. Scott is concerned for the well-being of all his friends, and no matter how skilled Allison is, she’s not invincible.
Allison And Jackson Should’ve Been A Couple
Although Jackson and Allison aren’t love interests, Reddit user DakiniDiamond feels they would make a good couple. The user argues that Jackson “seemed like a better person when he was around him,” and that Jackson and Lydia “were just too toxic for each other.”
It’s true that Jackson and Lydia are one of the worst couples in Teen Wolf, but Allison and Jackson don’t appear to be a topic of conversation. They do show signs of potential, as the two form a friendship during the first season. Yet Jackson treats others so poorly it’s hard to ship him with anyone in the show.
Scott And Malia Deserved More Screentime
Out of all of Scott’s love interests in Teen Wolf, Malia is the least popular among fans. Reddit User Coco2535 is in the minority, and writes that they “actually liked Scalia” and “wish they had more screentime together.”
Whether a ship is good or not depends on each individual’s opinion, but Scott and Malia don’t have the best romance from a writing perspective. Although they have plenty of chemistry, the couple lacks the necessary buildup. Their relationship is an interesting idea that’s executed poorly.
Stalia Is Better Than Stydia
Viewers aren’t happy when Stiles and Malia hook up in Eichen House and are revealed to be a couple during Teen Wolf season 4. Much of the dismay is due to Stydia’s popularity, but Reddit user anna_chacona simply writes “Stalia > Stydia.”
It may only be two words and a symbol, but it’s not a common opinion among fans of the show. While Stiles and Malia are thrown together quickly, Stiles and Lydia spend years developing a strong friendship beforehand. It’s also difficult to take Stalia to heart when Stiles had feelings for someone else during their relationship.
Allison And Isaac Are Wasted Potential
Scott and Allison are the main romance when the show starts, and they’re still loved by fans despite Allison’s tragic death in Teen Wolf season 3. However, Reddit user WrongAd8853 believes “Isaac was Allison’s first real mature relationship” and the couple “had so much wasted potential.”
Because Scallison’s story is meant to be reflective of first love, their young age is prominent. They learn and grow together, and fail as often as they succeed. Isaac and Allison lack depth and are portrayed on a surface level. The couple rarely discusses anything that could spark controversy, which is likely why they appear more mature to some viewers.
Marrish Is A Good Ship
Although Lydia and Parrish don’t become an official couple, there’s a period when it seems the show is heading in that direction. The audience isn’t happy about the relationship building between them, as most viewers are holding out for Stydia. Reddit user crimsonfury73 writes that they “actually do like Marrish” and the age gap doesn’t bother them.
To the user’s point, Lydia is eighteen and can date Parrish if she wants to. Yet the fact that she’s a high-school student isn’t what deters fans the most. Parrish has sexual dreams about Lydia that are brought on by their supernatural connection. These hallucinations make it difficult to believe the two share a genuine bond.
