Thanos Younger Brother Could Redefine The MCUs Power Level

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Eternals.

The arrival of Thanos’ brother Eros, aka Starfox, could redefine the power structure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios is debuting an entire slate of superheroes via Academy Award-winner Chloé Zhao’s Eternals. But aside from the main team of heroes, the franchise is also setting up an MCU future for the Titan known as Starfox, who will be played by Harry Styles.

After the Infinity Saga, the MCU is currently in a transition period as it rebuilds itself following the culminating event that was Avengers: Endgame. The 2019 Joe and Anthony Russo-directed blockbuster also functioned as the swan song for some of the franchise’s founding heroes such as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Captain America (Chris Evans). Now, second-generation heroes such as Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) are assuming leadership roles while their respective narratives continue. But, on top of that, Marvel Studios is introducing fresh key players to expand the ever-evolving universe, as well.

Several new characters have been debuted in the MCU since the end of the Infinity Saga including Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), and He Who Remains/Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). A few more are set to arrive in Eternals, which also paves the way for the introduction of Starfox. Looking at this Marvel Comics background, his debut could change the power dynamics in the franchise. Thanos’ brother didn’t have the Deviant gene that gave the Mad Titan his purple skin. Instead, Eros looks like a normal Eternal. In terms of capabilities, Starfox has all the basic Eternals powers such as shooting energy blasts. He has superhero strength, as well as, healing and flying capabilities; his body is able to process cosmic energy that allows him to live longer, as well. On top of all these, Eros’ powers in Marvel Comics show he can also psionically stimulate the pleasure centers of someone’s brain. He can essentially control someone’s emotions, making them more agreeable to whatever he wants, which makes him very dangerous if he wants to be — even more than Thanos was.

Assuming that Starfox ultimately joins the Avengers as he did in the Marvel Comics, these abilities would make him a unique addition to the superhero team. He has all the other heroes’ best features such as immortality and flight for Thor, as well as, super strength for Hulk and Captain America. Since he’s also an Eternal, Starfox embodies the collective powers of the cosmic race. Meanwhile, his ability to hypnotize is reminiscent of Mantis’ (Pom Klementieff) primary powers, and even Scarlet Witch’s (Elizabeth Olsen) as seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Eros represents the best powers of the Eternals, Avengers, and Guardians of the Galaxy. For comparison, Thanos is known for his physical strength, as proven by his brutal fight with Hulk at the start of Avengers: Infinity War. But other than that, not much else, at least in the MCU. He’s incapable of flight and seemingly not even the ability to heal himself, let alone psionics.

Given these, Starfox’s arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could significantly change the power hierarchy in the franchise. While he’s not exactly a traditional hero in the comics, he has proven time and time again that he can step up when duty calls. That’s good news for the Avengers as it means that they can call on him in case of another major threat like Thanos comes along.
