The 10 Best Christmas Movies On Disney Ranked According To IMDb

As Disney+ takes pride in the fact that it’s such a family-friendly streaming platform, it’s no surprise that there are a plethora of Christmas movies to choose from.

Though there is a distinct lack of Christmas classics, between all of the Disney+ exclusives and holiday movies available thanks to the studio acquiring 20th Century Fox, there are tons of hidden gems. Between binging through the Home Alone movies, schlocky comedies that have gotten better with age, and some revolutionary animations, there’s a random selection of holiday movies on Disney+.

10 Jingle All The Way (1996) – 5.7

The 10 Best Christmas Movies On Disney Ranked According To IMDb

Jingle All The Way might have a low IMDb score, but the Christmas movie gets better with age. The movie has such as ridiculous premise, as a father must compete with a psychotic mailman to find the last remaining Turbo Man action figure, the hot toy of the year.

Along the way, Howard gets into a brawl with dozens of mall Santas and becomes a wanted man. What’s interesting is that it’s mostly loved by 20-somethings, and they endlessly recite infamous lines like “put the cookie down!” so it must have at least been treasured by those who grew up with it in the 1990s.

9 Noelle (2019) – 6.3

The 10 Best Christmas Movies On Disney Ranked According To IMDb

As Disney surprisingly doesn’t have all that many cherished Christmas movies, the studio attempted to deliver an annual staple as recent as 2019. But despite sporting big names like Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader, Noelle isn’t exactly a classic in the way that Miracle on 34th Street is.

However, there’s still a lot to enjoy about the movie, as the film has a classic spin on the age-old Santa story. When Santa retires, his son is meant to take over the family business and must make sure everything is in order in the North Pole but his daughter might be better suited to the role. It’s more than just a drop in the ocean of average Disney+ exclusives, and as it stars two charismatic leads, there’s a lot of charm to Noelle.

8 One Magic Christmas (1985) – 6.5

The 10 Best Christmas Movies On Disney Ranked According To IMDb

Even though the movie sports some big names, One Magic Christmas is a relatively unknown flick, especially by Disney’s standards, but it’s an uncovered treasure. The film is great for people looking for that old-fashioned Christmas movie feeling, as the Ontario town it’s set in is completely covered in snow, tinsel, and Christmas trees, and it comes with tons of that classic Christmas schmalz.

One Magic Christmas is almost like a more modern version of It’s A Wonderful Life, as a mother is shown how great her life really is by an angel. But it’s more Disneyfied, as there’s obviously no talk of suicide and, of course, Santa Claus shows up.

7 The Santa Clause (1994) – 6.5

The 10 Best Christmas Movies On Disney Ranked According To IMDb

The name Tim Allen is almost synonymous with Christmas, as he’s starred in so many Christmas movies, whether it’s Christmas with the Kranks or all of the sequels to The Santa Clause. But it’s the original 1994 movie that remains the best.

Though the film lowkey spoils the truth about Santa Claus, it’s a tentpole holiday movie for all households. And being another spin on the formula, as Scott Calvin must take up the position of Santa after accidentally killing him, it makes for one of the most unique holiday movies.

6 The Mighty Ducks (1992) – 6.6

The 10 Best Christmas Movies On Disney Ranked According To IMDb

The Mighty Ducks is just as much a sports movie as it is a Christmas movie, as it follows a child-hating lawyer forced to coach a peewee ice hockey team. It’s a classic that’s full of comedy and hilarious pranks, and its legacy even continues to this day, as there was a TV series, Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, released earlier in the year.

Even though the movie isn’t about Santa Claus and it isn’t another adaptation of A Christmas Carol, it’s still about families coming together and it’s full of Christmas spirit. The film is full of warm reds and greens and there’s a beautiful-looking Christmas market, not to mention that there’s tons of snow.

5 A Christmas Carol (2009) – 6.8

The 10 Best Christmas Movies On Disney Ranked According To IMDb

Of all the different adaptations of Charles Dickens’ classic Christmas novel, 2009’s A Christmas Carol is the most interesting looking, and that’s even considering A Muppet’s Christmas Carol. The movie continues the experiment that director Robert Zemeckis started with The Polar Express, as it’s one of the forerunners in motion capture technology.

The movie also sports a typically theatrical performance from Jim Carrey, which is somewhat of a unique look for Scrooge. Between Carrey’s depiction of the character and the sometimes off-putting animation, A Christmas Carol isn’t for everyone, but it’s still fun and much more entertaining than the usual adaptations of the novel.

4 Home Alone 2: Lost In New York (1992) – 6.8

The 10 Best Christmas Movies On Disney Ranked According To IMDb

It isn’t anything original to take a movie series to New York, as so many sequels do it, whether it’s Die Hard, Gremlins, or Anchorman. But Home Alone 2: Lost In New York uses the city in creative ways, and though Home Alone is one of the best holiday movies set in Chicago, the Plaza Hotel is a perfect replacement for the McCallister residence.

The sequel might not be quite as good as the original, but it has more entertaining booby traps, there’s a larger cast of hilarious supporting characters, and Angels With Filthy Souls makes a return. And needless to say, it’s leaps and bounds better than the four sequels that would follow.

3 Home Alone (1990) – 7.6

The 10 Best Christmas Movies On Disney Ranked According To IMDb

Home Alone is a holiday classic, and though Disney+ is full of thousands of great movies old and new, the 1990 film is one of the few Christmas classics the steaming platform has. Everyone knows the story of Kevin being left alone over the Christmas period, only to have to take on two burglars by himself, and it never gets old.

Though Home Sweet Home Alone might not have fulfilled its promise of being a return to form for the series, it does have a brilliant cameo from an adult Buzz. Kevin’s big brother is one of the funniest characters in the original, and his cameo is reason alone to watch the sixth movie in the series, as disappointing as it might be.

2 The Muppets Christmas Carol (1992) – 7.7

The 10 Best Christmas Movies On Disney Ranked According To IMDb

There have been so many adaptations of A Christmas Carol, whether it’s the Jim Carrey-led motion-capture animation or the black comedy Scrooged. Surprisingly, the best adaptation of them all is The Muppets Christmas Carol. Who would have thought that a Muppet movie would have been the most heartfelt and faithful to the source material?

Not only is the 1992 movie the best adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic novella, but it’s one of the very best movies in the Muppets franchise too. The film is full of comedy, catchy tunes, and Michael Caine was born to play Ebenezer Scrooge.

1 The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) – 8.0

The Nightmare Before Christmas is just as much of a Halloween movie as it is a Christmas movie, and some could say more so. But despite all of the dark themes and the spooky vibes of Halloween Town, there’s so much Christmas spirit.

If anything, The Nightmare Before Christmas has more Christmas spirit than any other Holiday movie on Disney+. It follows Jack Skellington, who learns the true value of Christmas and attempts to teach the same thing to the citizens of Halloween Town. And with its creative stop motion animation, it’s one of the most unique-looking Christmas movies ever made.
