10 The Farewell (98%)
This 2019 comedy-drama, loosely based on the life of director Lulu Wang, tells of a Chinese-American family that decides to throw one final reunion with their grandmother prior to her passing.

Casablanca follows Rick Blaine, a nightclub owner who learns that a former lover and her husband are visiting the titular city during World War II. Though Blaine is able to help the couple escape Casablanca, doing so means sacrificing his romantic interests.
Casablanca was loaded with emotion, humor, and suspense. Though it has been nearly eight decades since the film’s first release, its heartfelt story continues to resonate with viewers. The film won Outstanding Motion Picture, Best Director, and Best Writing, Screenplay at the 16th Academy Awards.
8 Moonlight (98%)
This 2016 coming-of-age drama, based partly on Tarell Alvin McCraney’s own experiences, follows Chiron Harris through three separate periods of his life as he discovers his identity and sexuality despite severe abuse.
The moving story contained believable performances and artistic direction. Additionally, the uncommon narrative helped cement Moonlight as a stand-out. Moonlight went home with Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali), and Best Picture at the Oscars following its release.
7 BlacKkKlnsman (96%)
A couple of years after Moonlight was getting all the attention, BlacKkKlansman was stepping up to the plate. Based on the memoir by Ron Stallworth, this crime film sees the first-ever black detective in the Colorado Spring police department search out and expose the local Ku Klux Klan group.
The film managed to be both entertaining and raw; It shined a light on an important story while keeping up its vivid tone. Though the film was nominated for many Academy Awards, it went away with a singular Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar.
6 Citizen Kane (100%)
We’re jumping back to the ‘40s when this classic drama arrived on the silver screen.
Citizen Kane, loosely based on the life of Charles Foster Kane, tells of a reporter who is asked to figure out a man’s dying words. This has him uncovering a string of secrets related to the world Kane once knew.
Though Citizen Kane bombed at the box office and failed to gain attention at the time of its release, it received a second look (and a whole lot of love) in the 1950s. Following his life, the film explored the inner-working of organized crime.
Though The Irishman was stuck in development hell for years, it received a stream of positive reviews once it finally worked its way into existence.
The film was called smart, entertaining, and unique. Though the movie didn’t win any Oscars, it was nominated in nine categories.
4 Mission: Impossible – Fallout (97%)
Though films throughout the Mission: Impossible series have resonated well with fans, none have intrigued critics quite as much as the sixth installment. Mission: Impossible — Fallout has Tom Cruise jumping back into action as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. After a group of nuclear weapons goes missing, it’s up to Hunt and his team to track them down before a competing crew can.
The story’s fast-paced, absorbing narrative helped kept the excitement level high. Additionally, many believed the installment once again proved that Cruise was made for the series.
3 Lady Bird (99%)
Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird follows a teenager living in 2002 Sacramento, who hopes to escape her city and begin her life in a culture-filled destination on the East Coast. She must first, however, work through the difficulties of senior year including the strained relationship she holds with her mother.
The 2017 coming-of-age drama was praised for its well-written, personal narrative. Its strong cast and stylistic feel also helped.
2 Avengers: Endgame (94%)
Though not everyone would put Marvel films in the drama category, Rotten Tomatoes does — thus, it’s ending up here as well.
The final installment in the Avengers series, Endgame, has Tony Stark, Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, Bruce Banner, and the rest of the gang teaming together to put an end to the destruction Thanos has unleashed on the world. Their solution? To go back in time and collect the six Infinity Stones.
The series’ epic conclusion perfectly tied up many of the stories fans had been following for so long. Emotional, action-packed, and well-acted, the superhero hit had a lot to brag about.
1 Black Panther (97%)
Topping off the list is one of the most successful MCU films Black Panther.
This 2018 superhero film has T’Challa returning to the African nation of Wakanda after his father passes. After he is challenged by the sinister Killmonger, however, he must transform into the Black Panther to secure his place on the throne and prevent a political undoing.
The film was both a box office and critical success, with many praising the cultural significance, charismatic leads, engrossing story, and beautiful visuals. Black Panther won Best Original Score, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design at the Academy Awards. Its legacy lives on.
